ABOUT THE POSITION:

Lafayette College’s Sustainability Leadership Program is a week-long program hosted by the Office of Sustainability, which fosters experiences focused on food justice and regenerative farm systems, community engagement, and environmental innovation all while providing students a glance at college life at Lafayette. Using a design thinking mindset and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals framework, students will explore climate change and broader sustainability challenges. Students will gain valuable academic and leadership skills through off-campus trips, discussions with Lafayette students and professors, working at Lafayette’s College farm, and an end-of-week presentation on a group solution to a campus sustainability challenge. The 2026 program dates are Sunday July 26th – August 2nd. One Sustainability Leadership Program Coordinator is needed. The primary charge of the Coordinator is to provide supervision, mentorship and guidance for students and ensure their safety and well-being throughout the duration of the camp.


DETAILS OF THE POSITION

  • The Program Coordinator will report to the Sustainability Outreach & Engagement Manager and will be supported by Office of Sustainability student intern staff.
  • Overnight stay required for the entire week. Part-time work of a minimum of 10 hours is required for the week leading up to the camp. During the week of the camp, must reside with students in on-campus housing provided.
  • Potential to extend the position to include part-time work in June and early July may be considered depending on candidate availability. Compensation and projects may be expanded to include other summer priorities.
  • Location of employment will be on Lafayette main campus in Easton, PA with off campus field trips and activities, including to Lafayette’s College Farm, LaFarm
  • Compensation: Room, meals, field trips, and activities plus a stipend of $1,000.


Summer Camp Duties will entail:

  • Supervise students during meals, free time, special events, and field trips.
  • Ensure students are on time to all activities, providing transportation as needed.
  • Work with students to keep them engaged and involved in activities during the program.
  • Model positive behavior for students and ensure students act in accordance with College guidelines at all times.
  • Serve as a leader, counselor, disciplinarian, and role model throughout the program.
  • Follow all guidelines to ensure student safety during all activities and trips.
  • Other duties as assigned.


SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Effective presentation and group facilitation skills.
  • Ability to present effectively to small and large groups and to work productively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and employ decision making skills under the guidance of the supervisor.
  • Ability to grasp, retain, and disseminate an extensive and varied body of information.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Must enjoy structured and unstructured time with young people.
  • Preferred that the applicant has a drivers license and is able to take the Lafayette driver certification test in advance of the camp to drive campers via van.
