Operational Specialist
About the role

The Thermal storage and Steam Boiler Operator is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the steam boiler system. In addition to day-to-day operational responsibilities, the role includes periodic travel across Europe to support system installations, commissioning activities, and knowledge transfer for similar thermal storage and boiler installations.
Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor steam boiler systems to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant steam production.
- Perform routine inspections, safety checks, and operational rounds in accordance with procedures and regulations.
- Respond to alarms, abnormal conditions, and operational disturbances, including emergencies.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to mechanical, electrical, and instrument issues.
- Coordinate maintenance, troubleshooting, and first-line repairs in coordination with maintenance teams.
- Maintain accurate operational logs, checklists, and shift handover documentation.
- Contact with customers regarding completed and upcoming service and repairs.
- Be part of 24/7 Support organisation with phone duty responsibility.
- Support boiler system installation, commissioning, and startup activities at other European sites as required.
Required skills & experience
- Proven experience operating industrial steam boilers or comparable high-temperature thermal systems in the petrochemical, chemical, power generation, utilities, or district heating sectors.
- Valid boiler operator / stationary engineer certification or license (as required by local regulations).
- Strong understanding of boiler safety systems, controls, and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical diagrams, operating procedures, and technical documentation.
- Hands-on mindset with solid troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel periodically within Europe to support installations and commissioning.
- Comfortable working in shift-based or 24/7 operational environments.
