Job Purpose

As Capacity Development Project Manager at the Kuehne Climate Center (KCC) in Hamburg, Germany, you will design, implement, and lead capacity development projects that empower individuals, organizations, and stakeholder ecosystems to address climate and logistics challenges. You will focus on building expertise, fostering collaboration, and driving impactful change, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. You will collaborate with the KCC team across all programs, other Kuehne Foundation organizations and our external partners in various sectors to ensure that capacity development drives climate action and sustainable logistics.

What You Will Do

  • Leading end-to-end capacity development projects, from needs assessment and content curation to methodological design, delivery, and impact evaluation.
  • Designing and delivering high-quality learning experiences, including curricula, training materials, and workshops, as a learning designer, trainer, and facilitator.
  • Collaborating with KCC project managers and partners to co-create and implement capacity development strategies in climate and logistics.
  • Organizing and managing exchange programs (e.g. fellowships, study tours, scholarships) to foster knowledge sharing and professional networks.
  • Supporting partner institutions in becoming centers of excellence, strengthening their capacity to drive climate action and sustainable logistics.
  • Building and maintaining partnerships with universities, training institutes, private sector actors, governments, and international organizations related to climate and logistics.
  • Serving as an expert advisor on training and education across KCC programs, while contributing to the strategic development of the capacity development portfolio.

The KCC’s mission is to accelerate climate-compatible development within logistics (Climate Action in Logistics) and through logistics systems (Logistics for Climate Action). We do this through applied research & thought leadership, project & advisory work, and training & capacity building. In this role, you will have interfaces and collaborations with other subsidiaries of the Kühne Foundation, in particular with LEARN Logistics, the Kuehne Logistics University and HELP Logistics.

You‘re good at

  • Planning and running participatory stakeholder engagement processes

You bring

  • 5–9 years of experience in capacity development within international cooperation, preferably including experience living or working in a different continent.
  • Track record in successful project management, from planning and implementation to monitoring and evaluation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., engineering, logistics, supply chain management, environmental science).
  • Strong practical understanding of the logistics industry and/or climate action, and a commitment to be a change agent.
  • Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders, including universities, vocational training institutes, NGOs, government agencies, and private sector partners.
  • Fluency in English and at least one other language; proficiency in German is a plus.
  • Can-do mentality and an independent, proactive work style, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.
  • Strong remote collaboration skills, with the ability to connect effectively with teams and leadership across different locations.
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves and contribute hands-on to projects, embracing the challenges of a dynamic and evolving organization.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working in or with low- and middle-income countries, with cultural sensitivity and adaptability.
  • Eligibility to work in Germany and availability to travel internationally as needed.

Additional Information

The KCC is a subsidiary of the Kuehne Foundation in Schindellegi, Switzerland. Established in 1976 by the Kühne family and is one of the largest foundations in the German-speaking world. As an operational foundation it is involved in the areas of logistics, medicine, culture and, since the beginning of 2023, climate action. The Foundation is independent, operational and international.
