Job Summary:
The Vice President, Investments will lead end-to-end evaluation, execution, and management of complex private equity investments across the critical minerals, mining, and energy-transition infrastructure sectors. This role requires deep expertise in technical-sector financial analysis, multi-jurisdictional transaction execution, and post-investment value creation.
The Vice President, Investments will originate new investment opportunities, conduct advanced due diligence, develop valuation models for asset-level and corporate-level transactions, and drive portfolio performance through active engagement with management teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Investment Origination & Market Analysis
- Identify, evaluate, and prioritize investment opportunities within the global critical minerals and mining ecosystem, including upstream and midstream assets.
- Conduct market mapping for specific commodities (e.g., copper, lithium, nickel, cobalt, aluminium), analyzing supply/demand fundamentals, cost curves, and geopolitical considerations.
- Build investment theses using complex financial, operational, and technical datasets.
Transaction Evaluation & Execution
- Lead financial modelling (DCF, NAV, trading/transaction comps, project finance, streaming/royalty valuation), risk assessment, and scenario analysis for acquisitions, equity/debt financing, and structured transactions.
- Manage cross-functional due diligence (technical, environmental, operational, legal, ESG) and coordinate external advisors.
- Prepare and present Investment Committee materials, recommendations, and risk-mitigation strategies.
- Negotiate key commercial terms in M&A and capital markets transactions, including streams, royalties, joint ventures, and minority investments.
Portfolio Management
- Collaborate with portfolio management teams to drive performance improvements, capital allocation, and long-term strategic planning.
- Support exit readiness, divestiture processes, and investor reporting.
Stakeholder Engagement & Leadership
- Build and manage relationships with mining companies, OEMs, strategic partners, investment banks, technical consultants, and government stakeholders.
- Supervise junior investment professionals supporting financial modelling, research, and deal execution.
- Represent the firm at industry conferences, investor meetings, and sector-specific events.
Required Skills:
The successful candidate must have:
- Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in investment banking, private equity, or corporate development, with a primary focus on the global mining, critical minerals, or metals & mining sectors.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in end-to-end M&A and capital markets transactions, including cross-border acquisitions, asset sales, equity/debt offerings, and structured/streaming/royalty transactions.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on responsibility building and reviewing complex valuation models for mining assets and natural-resource companies, including:
- mine-life and production-profile modelling
- discounted cash flow (DCF) modelling with multi-scenario sensitivities
- project finance and debt-capacity analysis
- streaming/royalty valuation techniques
- Minimum 5 years of experience coordinating multi-disciplinary due diligence processes across legal, technical, environmental, operational, and ESG domains in multiple jurisdictions.
- Minimum 4 years of experience working directly with international investment banks, global corporates, or large institutional investors, managing analytical workstreams and transaction execution teams.
- Demonstrated track record participating in transactions with aggregate values exceeding US$5 billion, including active roles in strategic transactions, structured financings, or multi-party negotiations.
- Experience working at a major institution in a major financial centres, and demonstrating familiarity with cross-border work collaboration environments.
Required Education:
- A master's degree in business administration (MBA) (concentration in finance) or in finance
