The Opportunity

Kheyti is seeking a Prototyping Technician to support the design, testing, and continuous improvement of our climate-smart greenhouse systems, add-on products, and emerging agrivoltaic solutions for smallholder farmers. The technician will play a hands-on role in building, installing, and testing prototype systems at Kheyti’s R&D farm and selected farmer sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and assemble prototypes of greenhouses, structural components, irrigation and solar add-ons, and agrivoltaic pilot systems using available tools and materials

  • Collaborate with the R&D design and engineering teams to develop structured testing plans and protocols for prototype validation

  • Conduct on-site setup, installation, and dismantling of prototypes and test rigs at the R&D farm and farmer fields

  • Collect quantitative and qualitative data from field and lab tests, including sensor data, environmental readings, and observational notes



Ideal Candidate

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, solving practical engineering challenges, and translating ideas into real-world solutions that improve farmer resilience and income.

Must-Haves

  • Strong hands-on skills in field testing, including some working knowledge of fabrication, assembly, and mechanical/electrical prototyping

  • 2-5 yrs experience working with metal, plastic, wood, and other construction materials and developing and/or following testing protocols for physical products or systems

  • Familiarity with basic tools and workshop machinery (drills, grinders, saws, etc.)

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with basic agricultural structures, irrigation systems, or solar installations

  • Familiarity with greenhouse or agrivoltaic systems

  • Knowledge of environmental sensors, data loggers, or IoT-based monitoring tools

  • Basic understanding of CAD or design software (Fusion 360, SketchUp, AutoCAD)
