Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
HVAC Mechanical Design Engineer - Orlando
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented HVAC/Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing engineering team in Orlando. This role involves the design, analysis, and coordination of mechanical (HVAC) systems for commercial, institutional, and residential buildings. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in HVAC design principles, code compliance, and software-based modeling.
Responsibilities
- Perform load calculations , airflow sizing, and energy modeling using tools such as Trane Trace, Carrier HAP, or IESVE.
- Design and draft HVAC systems including ductwork, piping, equipment schedules, and control systems.
- Prepare detailed construction documents in AutoCAD, Revit, or BIM software.
- Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, and electrical teams during project development.
- Ensure designs comply with Florida Building Code, ASHRAE standards, NFPA, and local energy codes.
- Perform equipment selection and layout for systems including chillers, boilers, VRF systems, VAV boxes, and air handling units.
- Conduct site surveys and inspections to verify field conditions and support construction activities.
- Review and respond to RFIs, submittals, and change requests.
- Contribute to sustainable design goals (LEED, WELL, or Energy Star targets if applicable).
- Assist in commissioning, start-up, and troubleshooting of HVAC systems post-installation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (required).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or EIT certification (preferred).
- 3–7+ years of relevant HVAC design experience in commercial or institutional projects.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and HVAC design tools (e.g., Trace 700, Carrier HAP).
- Knowledge of MEP coordination, HVAC codes, and mechanical specifications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills:
- Familia rity with Building Information Modeling (BIM) practices.
- Experience with LEED, WELL Building Standard, or Green Building design.
- Understanding of controls and automation systems.
- Prior experience with healthcare, education, or governm ent buildings is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Competitive salary based on experience $90,000–$110,000 range (DOE)
