Energy Project Manager
A highly respected engineering consulting firm specializing in energy efficiency, sustainability, and high-performance building systems is seeking an experienced Energy & Retro-Commissioning Project Manager to join its growing New Jersey team.
This is an opportunity to lead impactful projects that help clients improve building performance, reduce energy consumption, optimize HVAC operations, and achieve sustainability goals across complex commercial, institutional, healthcare, and laboratory facilities.
What You'll Do
- Lead energy audits, facility assessments, and retro-commissioning projects for existing buildings.
- Perform field investigations and evaluate mechanical, HVAC, and control systems.
- Conduct energy modeling and calculate energy savings using industry-standard tools and software.
- Develop practical energy conservation measures and operational improvement strategies.
- Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and client expectations on medium- and large-scale engagements.
- Coordinate with owners, contractors, architects, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and recommendations for clients and stakeholders.
- Support ENERGY STAR®, LEED®, and Green Globes® assessment and certification efforts.
- Participate in proposal development, client relationship management, and business development initiatives.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
- 10+ years of experience in building energy analysis, energy modeling, energy audits, and/or retro-commissioning.
- Strong expertise in HVAC systems, mechanical equipment, and building controls.
- Experience evaluating and improving performance within technically sophisticated buildings.
- Proven project management experience with responsibility for client communication, project execution, and technical delivery.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP).
- Experience with healthcare, life sciences, laboratory, or institutional facilities.
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP), Building Energy Assessment Professional (BEAP), CPMP, or similar certification.
- Active engagement in professional organizations such as ASHRAE, AEE, USGBC, IBPSA, or related industry groups.
