At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission‑critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting‑edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good. The energy industry, particularly transmission grids, is undergoing major changes to accommodate regional and global decarbonization and energy transition targets. Underground and subsea cable technology are increasingly becoming a major player in this energy paradigm shift to enable large‑scale renewable energy generation, such as offshore wind, green hydrogen or large interconnectors. As a Power System Studies Engineer, you will closely work with regional and global power systems teams to support and lead ongoing projects as well as business development and proposal support with a variety of clients including renewable developers, transmission owner/developers and utilities.
The successful candidate shall demonstrate related experience and technical knowledge in power system modeling and analysis with renewable generation through past experience with consulting engineering firms, developers and/or utilities. Prior knowledge of electrical system studies from the conceptual engineering phase through the FEED‑ready phase related to renewable generation interconnection is preferred. Knowledge of offshore wind/HVDC will also be seen favorably.
This position is flexible and can be remote anywhere in North America. Perform power system studies (internal to the plant) including, but not limited to, load flow, short circuit, insulation coordination, TOV, arc flash and harmonics.
Perform power system studies (external to the plant) related to interconnection to ensure compliance with interconnection requirements as well as NERC standards.
Support system studies project(s) throughout the whole lifecycle (i.e. from the technical bid/proposal to execution, reports, client meetings/presentations, to close‑out).
Contribute to the delivery of projects, delivering on time and to budget.
Work with different types of customers including renewable developers, utilities, and ISOs/RTOs.
Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, from a recognized institution.
Minimum 4 years of direct experience with system studies on utility‑scale renewable projects.
