For over 75 years, the International Union for Conservation of Nature, IUCN, as a Membership Union, has worked towards a sustainable future for people and nature. Our vision guides us: a just world that values and conserves nature. Drawing on a large and diverse membership, and thousands of volunteer experts, with global reach, IUCN is focused on the crucial mission of safeguarding our natural world and rebuilding a healthy and equitable planet for people and nature. Moreover, Africa is witnessing growing investment opportunities. As political cycles present unexpected changes globally, investors remain influential in the flow of trillions of dollars. To stay competitive, investors seek to minimize physical risks associated with climate change, natural capital extraction, biodiversity loss to find investment opportunities in low-carbon economy and are still willing to use their influence to drive change at to a more resilient future for people, biodiversity and nature at large.

They also provide expertise to inform the design of blended finance and risk-mitigation mechanisms to deliver impact. They oversee numerous projects across relevant countries in coordination with IUCN’s Global Strategy and Regional Leadership colleagues, cultivate new partners and opportunities, and manage external relationships with finance institutions, NGOs, country governments, and other key stakeholders. In doing so, the role works through and complements existing ESARO functions – the thematic programmes, the country offices, and convening and enabling rather than assuming responsibilities already distributed across the office.
