Head Mechanic

ABOUT US:  Island Recycling has been in business for over 40 years and operates on seven acres in Campbell Industrial Park.  Island Recycling has grown to be the State's premier MULTI-COMMODITY recycling center, helping the public, commercial and governmental entities keep more than 60,000 tons of recyclable material out of the waste stream each year.

JOB SUMMARY:  Island Recycling is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented mechanic to diagnose, repair, and maintain our scrap metal shredder and heavy equipment.  The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of electrical systems, hydraulics and combustion engines.  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform diagnostics and repairs on a variety of heavy equipment, hydraulics and electrical systems
• Conduct routine maintenance tasks such as change small motors, belts and wear items
• Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and electrical issues
• Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify problems and determine solutions
• Communicate with management about the status of equipment and any necessary repairs or maintenance
• Maintain a  clean and organized work environment

REQUIREMENTS

• Proven experience as an Automotive Mechanic or similar role
• Strong knowledge of automotive systems, including engines, transmissions and electrical systems
• Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and repair equipment
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• ASE certification or equivalent preferred but not required
• Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
