Accounts Payable, Reconciliations & Finance Systems
About Us
Island Green Power is a leading renewable energy company dedicated to the development of sustainable energy projects, principally solar and battery storage. We combine environmental ambition with commercial discipline to develop high-quality renewable energy projects and contribute to a greener future.
We value teamwork, integrity and excellence. Our people work collaboratively across a growing, multi-entity business, with a strong focus on learning, continuous improvement and professional development.
About the Role
We are looking for a qualified, ambitious finance professional ready to move beyond transactional finance into a broader financial and management accounting role. You will join a growing finance team at an important stage of its development, combining day-to-day delivery with the opportunity to shape how finance operates as the business scales.
The role is a blend of accounts payable and wider accounting. Initially, you can expect to split your time broadly equally between managing accounts payable across multiple subsidiaries and supporting bank and balance sheet reconciliations, month-end close and management reporting. Starting in AP is deliberate: understanding the process from the inside is essential to helping us streamline and digitise it.
We are investing in our finance systems, including NetSuite and invoice-processing automation such as invoice scanning and automated matching of invoices to purchase orders. You will play an active part in that work, helping to redesign processes, test improvements and embed new ways of working. As automation reduces manual processing, the balance of the role is expected to shift towards management accounting, financial analysis and reporting. The pace of that progression will reflect system delivery, business needs and your own development.
This role will suit a technically minded, self-motivated accountant with a strong AP foundation who is keen to build the skills for a management accounting career, and who takes pride in making processes work better.
Key Responsibilities
- Accounts payable: Manage invoice processing, approvals, supplier queries, payment preparation and AP ledger integrity for allocated subsidiaries, ensuring transactions are accurate, complete and recorded on time.
- Invoice and PO controls: Review invoice coding and supporting documentation, investigate unmatched items and work with budget holders and project teams to resolve purchase order and approval issues.
- Reconciliations: Prepare timely, fully supported monthly reconciliations for bank accounts and key balance sheet accounts, including trade payables, accruals, prepayments and intercompany balances.
- Issue resolution: Investigate reconciling items and aged balances, identify root causes, propose corrections and follow actions through to completion.
- Month-end and year-end close: Post and support journals, maintain schedules, provide variance explanations and complete assigned close activities within agreed deadlines.
- Systems and automation: Help drive improvements to NetSuite and connected invoice-processing tools, including process redesign, testing, documentation, data cleansing and embedding invoice scanning and automated invoice-to-PO matching.
- Management accounting: Take on increasing responsibility for accruals, prepayments, cost and variance analysis, management reporting and ownership of designated entities or cost centres.
- Audit support: Prepare clear, audit-ready schedules and supporting documentation, respond to queries and help resolve issues arising from internal or external review.
- Controls and process improvement: Identify practical ways to strengthen controls, reduce manual work, standardise reconciliations and make finance processes more efficient and reliable.
- Collaboration: Work constructively with the finance team and colleagues across the business, sharing knowledge and providing clear, practical support.
Experience and Qualifications
- Qualification: Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
- Experience: Three to five years' relevant finance experience, including strong hands-on accounts payable experience and evidence of responsibility beyond invoice entry.
- Reconciliations: Practical experience preparing bank and balance sheet reconciliations and investigating discrepancies through to resolution.
- Month-end: Experience supporting month-end close, including journals, accruals, prepayments or account analysis.
- Systems: Experience using an ERP or accounting system. NetSuite experience is highly desirable, as is experience with invoice workflow, scanning or purchase order matching tools.
- Excel: Strong working knowledge of Excel, including pivot tables, XLOOKUP or equivalent, SUMIFS and filtering, with the ability to organise and analyse transaction-level data accurately.
What We Are Looking For
- Career motivation: A genuine ambition to progress from a strong transactional base into management accounting and broader financial reporting.
- Tech-savvy and process-minded: Comfortable with finance systems and automation, and keen to use technology to improve how work gets done.
- Self-starter: Resourceful and organised, with the confidence to take ownership, manage your own workload and drive improvements with light-touch direction.
- Analytical mindset: Curiosity about why balances or processes do not work as expected, with the persistence to investigate and resolve issues rather than carry them forward.
- Attention to detail: High standards of accuracy, documentation and control, balanced with the ability to prioritise in a busy environment.
- Communication: Clear, professional communication with suppliers, colleagues and senior stakeholders, including effective follow-up on outstanding actions.
- Adaptability: A positive attitude to changing systems and processes, and a willingness to combine essential AP delivery with broader development opportunities.
