The Position

The Environmental Consultant (EC) is responsible for the coordination and delivery of project-based work for the Operations Team, ensuring compliance in line with environmental certificate schemes, project team efficiency and excellent customer service delivery.

This role plays a key part in coordinating project delivery and influencing project outcomes through effective stakeholder engagement, operational collaboration and strong attention to regulatory requirements. The Environmental Consultant also serves as the first escalation point for operational and customer-related challenges, working closely with the Operations Manager (OM) to identify and implement effective solutions for our customers.

Major Responsibility Areas

Project Leadership & Technical Collaboration

  • Lead the coordination and delivery of environmental certificate projects, ensuring compliance with relevant scheme requirements, environmental regulations and internal quality standards.
  • Coordinate project workflows and allocate tasks across project team members to support efficient and accurate project delivery.
  • Monitor project progress and identify opportunities to improve process efficiencies, and compliance outcomes.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to colleagues and junior consultants to strengthen capability and maintain high-quality project outputs.
  • Facilitate regular project check-ins with team members to review progress, address technical queries, and support effective project delivery.
  • Deliver technical briefings or refresher training to support consistent understanding of environmental certificate schemes, compliance requirements, and internal processes.
  • Contribute to a collaborative project environment that promotes accountability, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
  • Support strong client and stakeholder engagement by ensuring project communication is timely, accurate, and aligned with customer expectations.

Environmental Consulting, Policy & Sustainability Advisory

  • Constantly monitor monetary incentives and public policies that support the reduction of carbon emissions in Australia and propose solutions to address negative environmental impact related to climate change
  • Provide advice to industry on how to reduce their carbon emissions and help to mitigate the impacts of climate change by accessing financial incentives, such as the NSW Energy Savings Scheme (ESS), Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS), Renewable Fuels Scheme (RFS) and the Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF)
  • Assist the Customer Service and Energy Solutions Manager on business development and providing training for clients required under the ESS and ERF. That includes assisting customers with quotes for their projects and providing insights into how they can maximize their energy savings.

Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement

  • Contribute to continuous improvement by reviewing existing systems and processes for both the company and our customers.
  • At all times, assist to develop and maintain the company customer and prospect database, through professional delivery of service, and management representation.
  • Set and manage project processing times (e.g. enquiry response, validation turnaround, and RFI send- backs), ensuring consistent improvement of projects.
  • Collaborate with the wider Customer Service Officer team, Audits, Development, and OM to identify and implement project efficiency opportunities.

Industry & Client Relationship Management

  • Lead regular customer meetings representing NCBA in regulatory discussions to capture feedback and identify service improvements.
  • Build and strengthen client relationships through proactive engagement to identify improvements.
  • Monitor and track customer KPIs, trades, and PLI agreements, addressing gaps proactively.
  • Attend relevant energy efficiency and sustainability events on behalf of the company to develop current and prospective leads and foster client relationships with new and prospective clients.
  • Attend relevant energy efficiency and sustainability events on behalf of the company, to develop knowledge related to the effects of climate change and the environment and solutions being implemented. Stay abreast of emerging technologies aimed at mitigating environmental impacts. As well as to develop current and prospective leads and foster client relationships with new and prospective clients.

Regulatory Compliance, Policy & Quality Assurance

  • Assists in developing policies and strategies to reduce carbon emissions and minimize the environment impact for both the company and our current and potential clients
  • Analyses and advises on policies guiding the design, implementation and modification of government or commercial environmental operations and programs.
  • Effectively and efficiently administer, investigate, and enforce the provisions of the Energy Savings Schemes to ensure compliance with its standards.
  • Implement and uphold internal policies, procedures, and compliance standards in line with evolving industry technical expertise.
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping in accordance with accreditation and regulatory requirements.
  • Stay informed of changes in compliance or regulatory obligations and communicate updates to the project

team.

  • Monitor adherence to internal quality assurance processes and implement improvements where needed.
  • Work closely with Audits to ensure necessary adjustments to compliance process and outcomes from

Audits are communicated and implemented.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A qualification comparable to an Australian Bachelor’s degree or higher in a highly relevant field.
  • At least 1 year of relevant post qualification experience in environmental & sustainability industry or experience interpreting environmental legislation.

Performance Criteria

  • As agreed with the Operations Manager, based on project deliverables, customer satisfaction, team performance, process efficiency, and budget alignment.

Expected Salary : $87,000 - $95,000 AUD per year
