Engagement Director - Climate Tech
Engagement Director
Salary: £60,000–£70,000
Location: London (Hybrid)
Company: An early-stage climate & industrial tech consultancy
About the Company
I’m working with a fast-growing boutique consultancy that partners with breakthrough early-stage technologies across the energy transition, advanced materials, and industrial decarbonisation sectors. They help innovators commercialise world-changing technologies at pace, operating at the intersection of deep tech, market creation, and hands-on commercial execution.
They’re expanding and looking for an Engagement Director who can take ownership of client relationships, drive commercial performance, and play a key leadership role within the team.
The Role
The Engagement Director will hold a central position in the company structure (approximately 4th in the leadership chain). This role blends client leadership with commercial development, requiring someone who can act as a trusted adviser to founders and executives while also contributing directly to new client acquisition and closing deals.
It’s well suited to someone who thrives in fast-moving, ambiguous environments and is energised by working with early-stage climate and industrial technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage client engagements end-to-end, ensuring top-tier delivery and strong commercial outcomes.
- Build and maintain deep, trusted client relationships as the primary point of contact.
- Actively contribute to business development, including outreach, pitching, and deal-closing.
- Shape scopes of work, engagement strategies, and commercial proposals.
- Collaborate with senior leadership on broader company strategy and operational improvement.
- (Preferred) Provide oversight or mentorship to junior team members as the team grows.
Must-Haves (Non-negotiable)
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a client-facing or commercially focused role.
- Proven experience in client relationship management and involvement in new client acquisition.
- Strong interest in early-stage technologies in energy transition, materials innovation, and industrial decarbonisation.
- A self-starter mindset—comfortable operating without rigid structures or big-firm templates.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
They’re looking for someone who is:
- Exceptionally switched-on – sharp thinker, quick learner, strong problem-solver.
- Commercially competitive – motivated by closing deals and achieving measurable impact.
- Hard-working and proactive – someone who takes initiative and gets things done.
- Entrepreneurial and adaptable – thrives in ambiguity and fast-paced environments.
- Preferably not from a large consulting firm – they value flexibility over fixed frameworks.
- Management experience is advantageous but not essential.
Why This Role Stands Out
- Direct involvement with pioneering founders and high-potential technologies.
- Significant autonomy and influence within a growing organisation.
- A culture that rewards intelligence, initiative, and commercial results.
- A strong growth opportunity in a rapidly evolving climate and industrial tech market.
