Economic Fellow or Economist - Energy
Responsibilities:
The Energy Economist or Economic Fellow will collaborate with Policy Integrity’s legal and economic researchers to prepare policy reports, comments in regulatory proceedings, and journal articles on a variety of issues including energy and climate policy, wholesale electricity market design, and retail electricity policies. They will analyze proposed wholesale and retail market rule changes, and provide insights to inform policymaking.
Requirements and Qualifications:
We are looking for applicants with the following skills:
- Ph.D. in economics, public policy, or a related field;
- 0-3 years of relevant work experience for the economic fellow position and 3+ years of relevant work experience for the economist position. Experience at a federal or state regulatory agency is a plus;
- A strong statistical/econometrics background. Familiarity with empirical strategies applied in resource and environmental economics is a plus;
- A background in energy policy, wholesale electricity markets, retail electricity markets is a plus;
- Experience in modeling and familiarity with AI/ML techniques as applied to energy systems, markets, or policy analysis is a plus;
- Excellent written communications skills required, with the ability to communicate statistical studies to lay audiences. Applicants’ written materials will be reviewed to assess their professionalism, independent thinking, and persuasive writing skills, as well as their ability and willingness to absorb new subject matters in law and policy.

Benefits and Terms of Employment:
In compliance with New York City’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range is $88,00– $104,000 for the economic fellow position, and $125,000–$135,000 for the economist position. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

Policy Integrity follows a hybrid schedule that requires three days in office per week. For this position, occasional travel is also expected. (Staff based out of Washington, DC, may be expected to work remotely for a period of time while we establish a physical location in Washington.)
Policy Integrity research appointments are for 12 months, with regularly occurring extensions upon mutual agreement. The start date is flexible.
