We are looking for an ESG Verifier to join our successful ESG team. This role is home based with occasional travel to offices required.
Role and Responsibilities
The ESG Verifier will conduct external verification and pre-assurance of a company’s sustainability data and reports. They will be responsible for assessing, testing and verifying the accuracy, completeness and reliability of the ESG data. For example, GHG inventories, emission reduction projects and carbon footprint assessments in accordance with the ISO 14064 Standards. The position involves engaging with clients and project teams to ensure compliance. Also, it involves conducting pre-assurance audits to identify compliance issues, omissions, misstatements and potential greenwashing. In addition, performing AA1000 audits against the AA1000 principles.
The successful candidate's responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Conduct external assurance and verifications under AA1000 and ISO 14064 standards.
- Evaluate GHG data, emission factors and calculation methodologies across Scopes 1, 2 and 3.
- Evaluate ESG data and associated audit trails, to verify sustainability reporting information.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of a company’s internal processes for collecting, calculating and reporting ESG data.
- Ensure reporting complies with regulatory requirements and aligns with international frameworks.
- Conduct on-site audits and stakeholder interviews, to verify ESG data and reports.
- Provide technical guidance on regulatory compliance, mitigation strategies and climate reporting frameworks.
- Prepare audit reports, verification statements and recommendations.
- Coordinate with clients throughout the audit process.
- Support contiguous improvement of internal audit methodologies and quality assurance processes.
- Develop and update ESG procedures, in line with regulations, guidance and best practice standards. For example, SECR, ESOS and CSRD disclosures.
- Review and keep up to date with new policies and legislation, associated with ESG services.
- Strong project planning, prioritisation and communication skills, to consult with colleagues and clients to meet deadlines.
- Read and comply with the company’s Health and Safety Policy; taking reasonable care for the Health and Safety of themselves and others; co-operate with managers and other employees in fulfilling our objectives and statutory duties.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
Essential:
- Degree in STEM discipline or equivalent professional experience.
- A minimum of two years of experience conducting carbon footprint calculations (Scopes 1, 2 and 3) and auditing.
- ISO 14064 Greenhouse Gas Lead Verifier.
- An ability to QA clients’ ESG deliverables.
- Advanced user of the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong report writing capabilities to write QA processes and verification reports.
- An ability to project manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Desirable:
- Over four years of experience in consultancy or analytical roles, focusing on carbon management.
- Associate Certified Sustainability Assurance Practitioner (ACSAP).
- Knowledge of energy efficiency, renewable energy technology and climate models.
- Experience in conducting audits, for example, ISO 14001 or ISO 50001.
- Experience in conducting assurance services for clients, for example, ISO 14064 or CSRD.
- Experience in providing training to staff members.
- Experience in writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
