Environmental Health Safety Specialist
Summary
The successful operation of a manufacturing facility requires adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, industry standards, and internal policies.
The EH&S Specialist is responsible for establishing and maintaining systems that ensure compliance across all environmental, health, and safety programs. This includes assessing compliance status, identifying gaps, developing action plans with cross-functional teams, and tracking/reporting progress to leadership. This role works closely with plant management to proactively drive EH&S initiatives, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote a strong safety culture across the facility.
This position will be located in Burbank, CA and will work a swing schedule of 10:00am to 7:00pm Monday through Friday.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain compliant EH&S programs, policies, and procedures
- Coordinate and support the Emergency Response Plan; participate as a member of the Incident Command System (ICS)
- Monitor and audit compliance with:
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Fall Protection
- Confined Space programs
- Partner with Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance to ensure compliance with Management of Change (MOC) processes
- Track and report monthly safety metrics in alignment with regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA)
- Coordinate safety equipment inspections and maintain tracking systems
- Lead or support incident investigations and root cause analyses
- Manage the facility observation program and ensure consistent adoption
- Track and drive closure of EH&S action items (incidents, near misses, observations, audits)
- Coordinate regulatory inspections (e.g., fire, environmental agencies)
- Ensure required inspections, certifications, and preventative maintenance activities are completed (e.g., cranes, hoists, lifting equipment)
- Plan and execute emergency drills (annual, semi-annual, and as required)
- Maintain documentation for employee exposure monitoring programs
- Manage Hazard Communication and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) programs
- Ensure compliance with applicable licensing and regulatory requirements
- Develop and deliver EH&S training programs for employees
- Conduct internal compliance audits and self-assurance activities
- Identify compliance risks and continuous improvement opportunities; implement corrective action plans
- Review incident trends and recommend improvements to operational controls
- Act as liaison with regulatory agencies (e.g., OSHA, Fire Department)
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field required
- 3–5 years of EH&S experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) certification preferred
Compensation:
$80,000 to $100,000
