Sampling Assistant
Are you excited about hands-on fieldwork and contributing directly to climate action? Join InPlanet as a Sampling Assistant, supporting the collection of high-quality field data that helps us measure the impact of our Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) projects.
You’ll work closely with our Science team to collect soil and other field samples, maintain accurate records, prepare equipment, and support sampling activities across our partner farms. This is a practical, field-based role for someone who enjoys working outdoors, following clear protocols, and being part of a collaborative team.
Key Responsibilities
Field Sampling
- Collect soil and other field samples according to InPlanet’s protocols and quality standards.
- Support the marking and identification of sampling locations.
- Assist with field measurements and other data collection activities.
- Help ensure samples are correctly labelled, stored, and prepared for transportation.
Sampling Preparation & Logistics
- Prepare sampling materials, tools, labels, and equipment before each field activity.
- Support the organization, packing, transportation, and return of field equipment.
- Help coordinate sampling routes and activities with the wider team.
- Travel regularly to farms and project sites within the region.
Documentation & Data Quality
- Accurately record sampling information using the required forms and digital tools.
- Check that sample labels and field records are complete and consistent.
- Report any deviations, missing information, or field issues to the responsible team member.
- Support sample traceability from collection through delivery to the inventory or laboratory team.
Equipment Care & Safety
- Clean, organize, and carry out basic checks on sampling tools and equipment.
- Identify equipment issues and communicate when maintenance or replacement is needed.
- Follow all health, safety, and fieldwork procedures.
- Help keep vehicles, materials, and working areas clean and organized.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with Science, Operations, Inventory, and farm teams to complete sampling activities safely and efficiently.
- Communicate clearly about field progress, challenges, and changes to the plan.
- Contribute to a respectful and collaborative relationship with farmers and local partners.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Core Skills & Experience
- Completed or ongoing technical training or degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Environmental Management, Biology, Soil Science, or a related field.
- Availability to work full-time during regular business hours.
- Interest in hands-on outdoor work and agricultural environments.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures.
- Willingness and availability to travel regularly to farms and project sites.
- Basic ability to use digital tools for recording information.

- You are comfortable working outdoors and adapting to changing weather and field conditions.

Bonus Points
- Previous experience with soil sampling, fieldwork, agriculture, or research projects.
- Familiarity with GPS tools, sampling equipment, or field data collection.
- A valid driver’s licence and confidence driving in rural areas.
