About the Role
IIX is seeking a Senior Credit Analyst, Credit Portfolio Management to support the credit and portfolio monitoring process for its Women’s Livelihood Bond™ portfolios and other lending products. The role involves monitoring borrower performance, ensuring covenant compliance, and preparing financial reports for investors. The candidate will also support credit risk analysis for potential borrowers, working closely with the Innovative Finance team on underwriting and portfolio management. This role is key to maintaining strong portfolio performance and managing credit risk effectively across IIX’s impact lending activities.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Credit Analyst, Credit Portfolio Management at IIX, you will support the credit process for IIX’s lending products, including current and future Women’s Livelihood Bond loan portfolios. You will be responsible for monitoring existing loan portfolios and identifying and analyzing new lending opportunities as IIX expands its activities. This includes liaising with borrowers, preparing investor reports, conducting credit analysis, managing risks, and collaborating with the Innovative Finance team.
· Corporate Credit & Financial Analysis
o Strong ability to assess financial statements, cash flows, debt servicing capacity, and risk factors for corporate borrowers.
o Understanding of loan structuring, financial covenants and conditions, and repayment risk.
· Macroeconomic Insight
o Ability to assess economic and industry trends impacting borrower risk.
· Portfolio Monitoring & Risk Management
o Monitor borrower performance, compliance with covenants and conditions, and early warning indicators.
o Identify risks and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.
o Track and assess borrower performance; provide accurate and timely updates to investors and partners.
o Liaise with borrowers to monitor financial performance.
o Prepare quarterly and annual reports for submission to stakeholders.
o Play a key role as part of the first line of defense for risk mitigation in debt products.
· Credit Analysis & Underwriting
o Identify potential borrowers (e.g., microfinance institutions and high-impact enterprises).
o Analyze prospects in line with IIX’s lending criteria.
o Conduct underwriting of credit exposures.
o Support desk due diligence, financial modelling, deal structuring, documentation, and transaction closure.
o Collaborate with the Innovative Finance team to drive underwriting and credit risk management
· Excel & Financial Modelling
o Proficiency in Excel (Index-Match, VLOOKUP, pivot tables, basic modelling) for financial analysis.
· Reporting & Communication
o Prepare credit appraisal reports, credit assessments, portfolio and borrower updates, and ad hoc reports.
o Present credit and credit risk findings clearly and persuasively, both in writing and verbally.
· Stakeholder Management
o Work directly with the Innovative Finance team on credit and risk matters.
o Provide subject matter expertise and manage delivery of lending products to assigned clients.
o Strong interpersonal and client-facing communication skills.
· Attention to Detail
o Ability to identify data inconsistencies and verification issues.
Suggested KPI
· Analyze financial and impact information and reports relating to borrowers and potential borrowers;
· Analyze current and past financial data; review current financial performance and identify trends
· Craft investment rationale and draft investment proposals for the investment committee
· Monitor and interpret economic, market, and sector fundamentals, risks, and opportunities
· Provide transaction support on transactions including support on desk due diligence, financial analysis, deal structuring, documentation, and transaction closure
· Monitoring of WLB portfolio investments as well as markets in which they are operating
· Provide day-to-day operations support for credit risk management and transaction management
· Provide support in the active origination and screening of potential borrowers for the WLB portfolios
Preferred Qualification
· Bachelor's degree; MBA or Masters degree a plus
· Three to five years as a financial analyst; direct credit experience in a lending institution; SME lending a plus; emerging South and Southeast Asian markets a plus
· Strong quantitative skills, expert problem-solving ability, adeptness in the use of logic
· Excellent financial analysis skills
· Demonstrable capability to report findings in a clear, concise and persuasive manner.
· Attention to detail and the ability to identify verification issues and data patterns
· Excellent knowledge of excel and spreadsheeting as a tool for analysis and database management
· Strong interpersonal skills; Relationship management and client-facing experience a plus
· Excellent written and verbal communication; Demonstrated ability to prepare written memos and reports fluently in English
· High comfort level working in a relatively flat, non-hierarchical environment
· Experience living and working in a variety of cultures, particularly in Asia. Time spent in developing countries is an advantage.
· International development and/or impact enterprise or MFI experience
· Academic or professional experience with IIX sector specializations (including renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, inclusive finance, technology access, rural healthcare services, education)
· Fluency or proficiency in one or more regional languages
· Willing to travel around South & Southeast Asia (once travel restrictions are lifted)
