Who we are:

Independent Energy System Operator (IESO) Nova Scotia is a new organization created by the Nova Scotia Government that began operations in 2025. IESO Nova Scotia will reform the way Nova Scotia’s energy system is managed by assuming responsibility for managing the power system in real-time, achieving clean energy goals and planning for the province's future energy needs.

Role Summary:

The successful candidate will report directly to the Director of Finance and will be responsible for maintaining accurate and timely project financial records, monitoring project budgets and forecasts, and providing financial reporting and analysis to support project and operational decision-making. This role will also support core accounting functions including reconciliations, transaction processing, month-end close activities, and financial controls to ensure the integrity of financial information across the organization.


Responsibilities:

  • Maintain project accounts, ensuring accurate coding, completeness, and compliance with company standards. Collaborate with project staff to develop and update project budgets and forecasts.
  • Build effective working relationships with project teams and provide financial insights that support operational decision-making.
  • Prepare, reconcile, and analyze accounts, ledgers, and financial statements.
  • Assist in month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes.
  • Process invoices, expense reports, and payments accurately and on time.
  • Monitor outstanding receivables and follow up with clients/customers as needed.
  • Ensure vendor and customer accounts are reconciled regularly.
  • Ensure adherence to accounting policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the external audit and provide necessary documentation and reconciliations.
  • Identify gaps or inefficiencies in accounting processes and suggest improvements.
  • Provide financial analysis and reports to support business decisions.
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities by preparing schedules or reports.
  • Respond to accounting inquiries from management, auditors, or other departments.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business Administration, or related field
  • CPA designation or progress toward CPA designation considered an asset
  • Minimum three years’ experience in accounting role
  • Experience working directly with general ledger systems required
  • Experience with project accounting, forecasting and budgeting
  • Knowledge of the application of accounting standards and production of financial statements
  • Experience performing account reconciliations, posting journal entries, producing financial statements
  • Experience in accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions
  • Skilled at time management and managing multiple deadlines
  • Knowledge of internal controls is beneficial
