This role will be working from our Glasgow office with hybrid and flexible working options available.

The Opportunity

We are currently looking for several DevOps Engineers to join our growing team in Glasgow. Working together with Software Development, QA and IT teams, the successful candidates will be assisting with the design and implementation of a scalable build environment with continuous integration pipelines used to deliver IES products. This include building and maintaining internal tools that assist teams from writing their first line of code through extensive testing to software release.

As a DevOps Engineer at IES, this is what you’ll do:

  • Promotion of DevOps principles within IES
  • Assist in the design, develop and maintain infrastructure running on premises
  • Assist in the future migration to Cloud based services primarily in Azure
  • Maintain documentation of the company’s existing systems architecture and technology portfolio; make recommendations for improvements and/or alternatives
  • Assist in the development, documentation, communication, and enforcement a policy for standardising systems and software as necessary
  • Maintain and promote a positive approach to the company’s continued adoption of DevOps principles, working with the Development teams to improve application lifecycle management
  • Assist the Software Development Team with deployment responsibilities

The Candidate

We are looking for several experienced DevOps Engineers with strong analytical and problem-solving skills who has experience collaborating with development groups to establish processes. Can work on own initiative as well as collaborating in a growing team. The successful candidates will demonstrate commitment to quality with a passion for automation and possess excellent oral and written communication skills.

Essential Skills:

  • Degree in related subject or relevant professional experience
  • 3+ year’s DevOps experience
  • Source Control Management systems (e.g. git, Perforce)
  • Continuous Integration (CI) tools (e.g. Jenkins, Azure DevOps)
  • Configuration management tools (e.g. Ansible)
  • Virtualisation technologies:
    • Docker
    • Kubernetes
    • VMWare
  • Strong scripting skills (e.g. PowerShell, bash, Python)
  • Cloud technologies Azure (experience with other cloud technologies will be considered)
  • GIT

Desirable Skills:

  • Agile experience (e.g. SCRUM)
  • Experience with build systems (e.g. CMake, MSBuild, Visual Studio)
  • Experience using package management systems (e.g. Conan, Nugent, NPM, Artifactory)
  • Azure DevOps Server (Formally Team Foundation server)
    • Manage / Create Repositories
    • Manage / Create Piplines
  • Vault (or similar secrets management system)
  • Experience with web services, networking and scalable solutions (DNS, TCP/IP, NGINX, firewalls, Load Balancing)
  • Monitoring & Alerting (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana)
