Proposal Writer (research grants - Horizon Europe / Innovate UK calls)

Dublin or other remote locations by agreement.

This role will be temporarily homebased due to COVID-19. Then subsequently working from our Dublin office or other remote locations by agreement with hybrid and flexible working options available.

This position will require regular travel throughout Europe and particularly in Brussels to attend various EU meetings and events focussing on new opportunities for R&D funding streams along with the preparation and writing of proposals for new research funding and new product development.

The Opportunity

IES are currently looking for a research grant proposal writer to join our growing R&D team and help us secure the resources to further develop, evolve and validate our products. You will be responsible for conceptualising, scoping, writing and submitting research grant proposals for collaborative research projects.

Tasks and responsibilities include the following:

  • Keep track of the energy and construction industries policy area including developments and trends at the national (Ireland/UK), EU and global level
  • Maintaining a bird’s eye view of the ongoing scientific and technological evolutions in the domains of construction and energy
  • Explore, monitor and identify funding opportunities from national (Ireland/UK) and EU research funding agencies
  • Interact and collaborate with the internal R&D team to identify research gaps and research priorities
  • Explore and identify opportunities for testing and validating new and experimental IES products and services
  • Build synergies with prospective partners and develop networks of collaborators
  • Create and manage collaborative consortiums for new research proposals.
  • Scope, design, develop and submit new research project proposals in a professional and credible manner.
  • Review, edit and revise proposals when necessary.

The Candidate

You may already have a proven track record of developing new research grant proposals in a technical discipline. Alternatively, you may have been working as an experienced consultant/researcher and wish to develop your career in a more notionally-oriented role and position where projects lifecycles are shorter and more frequent.

Essential Skills:

  • Degree in engineering or building physics
  • Broad knowledge of the construction and/or energy industry and respective markets
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent influencing and relationship-building skills
  • Professional presentation skills
  • A proactive attitude and ability to work independently
  • Ability to conceptualise, scope, draft and communicate new R&D ideas and concepts

Desirable skills:

  • A PhD or a Masters degree in an engineering discipline
  • A track record of written research grant proposals from various funding agencies
  • A track record of professional reviewing of written technical/scientific material (research grant proposals / research papers / academic theses)
  • A track record of coordination and participation in collaborative research and innovation projects
  • Professional knowledge of a second foreign language (German, Spanish, French, Italian) will be considered an asset
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
