Responsibilities

The Senior Manager, Global Sustainability reports to the US Head of Corporate Sustainability, and will be responsible primarily for strategy and planning and CoE support. As the Senior Manager of Global sustainability you will:

  • Ensure the US is delivering on the bank’s net zero strategy, supporting the business on driving sustainable finance and investments with thought leadership for clients and our DBS colleagues on our own operations
  • Foster positive relationships with senior management, business and function heads to ensure net zero is embedded within all aspects of the business
  • Act as the Corporate Sustainability member of the Sustainable Finance Forum, Climate Risk Working Group and other relevant internal governance
  • Be the expert on communications, events, industry groups and all other platforms we can utilize to continue to build HSBC’s reputation in the US both internally and externally as a leading bank on sustainability and sustainable finance, with a particular focus on events that reach CFO and CSO teams at large corporate clients (top 20 US and top 20 global that are US based)
  • Responsible for staying alert to global and local trends, issues and campaigns and report emerging client opportunity areas and risks that may impact HSBC and its customers, and serve as a “go to person” to the business and functions on climate policy, ESG, sustainable finance and responsible investing, working closely with the Americas Head of Corporate Sustainability

You’ll likely have the following qualifications to succeed in this role:

  • Strong experience in a sustainability role in the financial services industry (preferably client led) OR in a role in the financial services industry that incorporates ESG, green or sustainability considerations (e.g., ESG Analyst, Responsible Investment Advisor, Environmental Risk Manager)
  • University graduate in business, sustainability or related field
  • Sound knowledge of global sustainable finance frameworks including CDP, TCFD and global climate policy
  • Communications skills, both written and verbal
  • An innovative thinker on the most effective methods to raise awareness with internal and external stakeholders, including employees, clients, industry groups and nonprofits/NGOs
  • Ideal candidate will have experience analyzing corporate sustainability strategies, policies, management and performance and recommending strategies for improvement, particularly in high carbon industries
  • Driver of change. Adaptable and demonstrates initiative. Must be able to work independently, cope with ambiguity, quickly develop trust, negotiate effectively, navigate what is right for the Company, manage messaging and motivate others
  • Experience working with or supporting senior executives. Must possess ability to work effectively across levels, geographies and functions in a complex global organization
  • Strong organizational, administrative and coordination skills
  • Passionate about environmental and social issues such as climate change, sustainable development, human rights, good corporate governance, etc.
  • Good team player and strong partnering skills
  • Leadership, influencing and negotiation skills
  • Spanish language a plus but not a requirement

Your final fixed pay offer will depend on the candidate and several variables, including but not limited to, role responsibilities, skill set, depth of experience and education, licensing/certification requirements, internal relativity, and specific work location.
