Future Network and Planning Manager

The Opportunity
Shape the future of Horizon’s network, leveraging emerging technologies and robust data-driven decision making to benefit the community it serves.
Sitting at the intersection of engineering, regulatory and commercial decision-making you will be key in deciding where and how capital is deployed across the network.
In doing so, you will have the opportunity to:
- Spearhead the development of an optimised 10-year TOTEX plan across all network assets
- Explore DSO solutions including managing new solar, storage and DER connections
- Enhance data quality, analytical tools and reporting capability
- Develop climate adaptation and resilience strategies across all voltage levels
- Advance hosting capacity analysis, LV visibility and smart meter data integration

The Role
Leading a small team, you will play an important role in managing both strategic and technical planning functions, including:
- Undertaking and overseeing load flow, fault, security and constraint studies
- Evaluating network and non-network solutions including microgrids and emerging technologies
- Leading reliability engineering and scenario analysis to inform investment decisions
- Contributing engineering inputs to pricing reviews, asset utilisation analysis and depreciation modelling
- Reporting for both regulatory and trust requirements including information disclosures and environment initiatives
A crucial liaison internally and externally, you will collaborate closely with the Asset & Delivery Manager, Operations Manager, Asset Intelligence Manager, Regulatory team, consultants, contractors and industry stakeholders including Transpower and local authorities.
Additionally, you will provide subject matter expertise to your team and broader business, including the Board and Executive.
About You
Analytical and commercially astute, you will be able to navigate ambiguity through leveraging in data driven and sound engineering decisions.
Experienced in electricity distribution, you’ll likely come from a utility or consultancy, bringing:
- Proven experience in network planning or power systems analysis with a strong capability in load flow, fault and reliability studies
- Experience with connection assessments and ideally DER integration
- Advanced data capability including statistical analysis and scenario modelling
- Demonstrated experience in programming experience and big data analysis
- Confidence in building investment cases and presenting economically savvy decisions to senior leaders
