Within the Research and Transfer Centre for Sustainable Development and Climate Change Management (FTZ-NK), the Environmental Management and Circular Economy Division develops, coordinates and implements national and international research and innovation projects.


About the Role


For this part-time and Hamburg based position, we are looking for an Environmental Scientist to join our multidisciplinary team.

This role combines environmental research, technical sustainability assessment, and the coordination of national and international research and innovation projects. You will conduct independent and collaborative research on circular economy topics, while contributing to the strategic development of the division through new project concepts and collaborative initiatives.

Your work will involve developing and implementing research and innovation projects; conducting literature reviews, technical environmental assessments, and qualitative and quantitative data analyses; developing methodologies, preparing scientific and technical outputs; and collaborating with international partners on project implementation, proposal development, communication and stakeholder engagement activities.


We are looking for someone who combines strong analytical and organisational skills with excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. The ideal candidate enjoys tackling complex sustainability challenges, translating scientific evidence into practical solutions, thinking strategically, and working both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic international research environment.


Qualifications:


  • Master's degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, Circular Economy, or a related discipline (PhD is an advantage).
  • Demonstrated experience with environmental assessment methodologies such as LCA, carbon footprinting, environmental impact assessment, eco-cost analysis, or other sustainability assessment methods.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organisational, and project coordination skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, think critically, and contribute proactively to the development of projects and the strategic growth of the division.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English. German language skills are an advantage.
  • Experience in national or European research and innovation projects, sustainability initiatives, or collaboration with industry or public authorities is considered an asset.
