Overview

A leading organization in the renewable energy sector is seeking a Project Engineer (E&C Engineer) to support capital projects at wind farms across the region. This role manages a portfolio of projects end‐to‐end—from planning and budgeting through execution and closeout—primarily supporting wind facilities in Southwest Minnesota, with additional sites across Minnesota, South Dakota, and nearby areas.

This is a hybrid role with strong autonomy, ownership, and cross‐functional collaboration. The Project Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget while meeting quality and performance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 10–12 capital projects per year supporting wind facilities
  • Plan, schedule, and execute capital projects from initiation through completion
  • Develop project budgets, forecasts, and multi‐year capital plans (≈5‐year horizon)
  • Order equipment and manage external contractors and vendors
  • Coordinate closely with site Operations & Maintenance (O&M) teams to align priorities and schedules
  • Perform limited research and development to evaluate and select optimal equipment solutions
  • Ensure adherence to project scope, quality, schedule, and cost targets
  • Track portfolio performance and report on progress, risks, and financials
  • Conduct occasional site visits during construction windows to oversee installations and field execution
  • Support root cause analysis, quality reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Apply standard engineering principles to evaluate system design, reliability, safety, and cost effectiveness

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred; other engineering disciplines considered)
  • Approximately 3–7 years of relevant experience in engineering or project management roles
  • Experience managing capital or infrastructure projects end‐to‐end
  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals, project execution, and contractor coordination
  • Ability to work independently with minimal day‐to‐day oversight
  • Strong communication skills for multi‐site and cross‐functional collaboration
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to wind farm sites (<20%)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in renewables , particularly wind energy
  • Prior experience with wind turbine OEMs or on‐site wind operations
  • Project Management Professional ( PMP ) certification
  • Professional Engineer ( PE ) license
  • Exposure to other renewable technologies (solar, hydro, battery storage)
  • Comfort with spreadsheets and basic project tracking tools
