About the Event

HBCU CLIMATE VENTURES SYMPOSIUM - Mecca Moves is a one-day climate and systems leadership symposium founded by Ambriel Pouncy, hosted by HBCU Climate Ventures in collaboration with DC Climate Week, Howard University, Fusion Fashion Tech Society and A More Humane World. This convening brings together students, scholars, policymakers, technologists, investors, creatives, and community leaders for bold conversations at the intersection of climate justice, innovation, and systems change.


Available Positions

1. Run of Show Producer

Support the seamless execution of the day's programming from start to finish.

Responsibilities:


  • Work closely with event organizers to keep all sessions on schedule
  • Cue speakers, panelists, and moderators before their sessions
  • Coordinate transitions between keynotes, panels, and activations
  • Communicate timing updates to AV staff and stage managers
  • Troubleshoot scheduling issues in real time


Ideal Candidate:

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Calm under pressure and solutions-oriented
  • Experience with event production, stage management, or live programming a plus


2. Marketplace Vendor Setup Assistant


Help bring the Sustainable Innovation Exhibition & Career Activation space to life.

Responsibilities:


  • Assist vendors, student researchers, and corporate partners with booth setup
  • Ensure tables, signage, and materials are properly arranged
  • Serve as a point of contact for vendor needs throughout the day
  • Support breakdown and pack-up at event close


Ideal Candidate:

  • Friendly, proactive, and service-oriented
  • Comfortable with light physical tasks (lifting, arranging furniture)
  • Interest in climate ventures, sustainability startups, or career services


3. Audience Engagement Ambassador


Create an energizing, interactive experience for all attendees.

Responsibilities:


  • Welcome guests and foster a warm, inclusive environment
  • Encourage attendee participation during panels and Q&A sessions
  • Facilitate networking moments and icebreakers
  • Capture attendee feedback and testimonials
  • Amplify event energy on social media (optional)


Ideal Candidate:

  • Outgoing personality with strong interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable speaking with diverse groups of people
  • Passionate about climate justice and community building


Qualifications (All Positions)

  • Currently enrolled college student (Howard University and partner HBCU students strongly encouraged)
  • Must be available for the entire day on April 22
  • Interest in climate, sustainability, tech, policy, or social justice
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional
  • Ability to be on your feet and active throughout the event
