Your new role

This department is seeking a highly capable and strategic Records and Information Management Specialist to lead the review, redesign, and implementation of the division's records management framework for 12 weeks with the view for extension commencing January 2026. This role supports a regulatory agency responsible for ensuring compliance with national water laws and promoting transparent, accountable water management across jurisdictions.


The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening the agency's information governance, ensuring that recordkeeping practices are efficient, compliant, and adaptable to future systems and technologies.

Your duties will include but are not limited to:
  • Lead the review and analysis of the current records management structure in Content Manager, identifying gaps, inefficiencies, and compliance risks.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders to understand current and future recordkeeping needs, workflows, and operational requirements.
  • Ensure all proposed changes align with relevant legislation, National Archives of Australia (NAA) standards, and internal agency policies.
  • Design a new records file structure (classification scheme/taxonomy) that supports future system transitions, including potential migration to SharePoint.
  • Develop a detailed implementation plan outlining key steps, responsibilities, and timelines for transition.
  • Draft a Records and Information Management Plan for the division, aligned with the agency's governance framework and templates.


What you'll need to succeed

This role requires prior experience within the APS at the EL1 level.


To succeed in this role, you will:


  • Demonstrate experience in records and information management within a government or regulatory environment.
  • Have a strong understanding of Content Manager and SharePoint, including system design and classification structures.
  • Show proven knowledge of relevant legislation and NAA standards governing records management.
  • Have proven ability to lead projects, manage competing priorities, and deliver outcomes within tight timeframes.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams.
  • Have experience in developing governance documentation and implementation strategies.
You must be an Australian citizen and will possess or be willing to go through the process to obtain and maintain a (Baseline, NV1 or NV2) personnel security clearance.


Desirable Qualifications:
  • Formal qualifications in Records Management, Information Management, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in change management and capability building within a records or information governance context.
