Key Responsibilities
- Operate Equipment: Run loaders, skid steers, and other heavy machinery to move, stack, and load materials such as plastics, cardboard, metals, and construction debris.
- Load Trailers & Compactors: Safely and efficiently load materials into compactors and transfer trailers. Monitor equipment and notify dispatch when loads are ready.
- Maintain Yard Flow: Keep tipping floors and drive lanes clear of obstructions to ensure a safe and organized site.
- Perform Equipment Checks: Conduct daily pre- and post-operation inspections; monitor fluids, hydraulics, and safety systems.
- Report Issues: Communicate any equipment concerns or safety hazards immediately to supervisors or maintenance.
- Assist with Sorting: Support the recycling process by staging and separating materials as needed.
- Maintain Clean Work Areas: Help keep the site and loading areas organized, clean, and safe.
- Follow Safety Standards: Adhere to OSHA, company, and site-specific safety procedures at all times.
- Collaborate with the Team: Work closely with drivers, scale operators, and fellow yard staff to maintain a steady and efficient workflow.
- Recordkeeping: Complete daily logs, inspection sheets, and load documentation accurately and on time.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year operating heavy equipment (loader, skid steer, or excavator) — preferably in recycling, waste, or construction environments.
- Certifications: Valid equipment certifications required; CDL preferred but not mandatory.
- Mechanical Awareness: Able to identify and report mechanical or safety issues.
- Physical Requirements: Able to lift up to 50 lbs, work outdoors in all weather, and operate machinery for extended periods.
- Safety Mindset: Understands and follows all safety policies and situational awareness practices.
- Team Player: Communicates clearly and works well in a team environment.
- Adaptability: Willing to take on varied yard tasks to support the operation as needed.
