We’re looking for a Fleet Manager who can combine big picture thinking with hands-on leadership. In this role, you’ll shape the strategic direction of our fleet, ensuring it aligns with sustainability and emission reduction goals. From procurement and renewal programs to compliance and safety standards, you’ll be at the heart of keeping our operations moving smoothly.
You’ll work closely with senior leadership, providing accurate data and performance insights, while building strong relationships with vendors and stakeholders. Your ability to balance strategy with day-to-day operational requirements will make a real impact across the organisation.

Some Key Responsibilities Include, But Not Limited To
- Manage the implementation of the fleet long term strategy aligned with Council’s Climate Action Plan, achieving emission reduction targets and supporting long-term sustainability goals.
- Manage the long-term plan process on behalf of the fleet activity, ensuring that the current and future needs of fleet assets across the organisation are planned and budgeted for.
- Lead all procurement and disposal activity to deliver the annual fleet procurement and renewal programme, ensuring vehicles and equipment are fit-for-purpose, safe, cost-effective, and compliant with specifications.
- Manage vendor relationships and effectively negotiate contracts to ensure performance standards are met and agreements deliver value for money.
- Monitor and report regularly on key fleet KPIs including utilisation, uptime, performance, emission progress and asset values.
- Lead and support the fleet team, including the Fleet Controller, to deliver efficient day-to-day operations and exceptional service to the organisation.

Qualifications And Experience
- Relevant qualification in fleet management, logistics, or a related discipline, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience managing fleet operations
- Strong understanding of statutory regulations and compliance requirements for fleet and equipment.
- Proven ability in budget management, procurement processes, and delivering financially sustainable outcomes.
- Proven experience in strategic asset or fleet management (public sector or complex environments preferred).
- Relevant experience of asset lifecycle planning, risk and financial modelling in fleet operations.
- Experience working with asset management systems.
- Experience developing and leading small teams while also demonstrating a hands-on approach to all tasks.
- Provent ability to build, maintain and influence effective relationships across organisations and with external vendors and service providers
- Proven ability to think innovatively, act with integrity, collaborate effectively, and deliver results.
- Strong work ethic with the ability to plan in detail and execute projects using internal and external resources.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- A proactive, can-do attitude who is able to work strategically and at operational levels, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing work requirements and volumes.
- Tech-savvy with advanced knowledge of MS Office (particularly Excel) and experience using fleet management databases.
- Passion for identifying opportunities, solving problems, and implementing efficient solutions.
