Are you an experienced Process Engineer who enjoys getting hands-on with equipment, solving complex engineering problems and seeing your designs work in practice?

H-Power is a UK clean-energy technology business developing ammonia-cracking and hydrogen-based power systems, helping industries move away from traditional diesel-powered solutions.

We're looking for a Principal / Lead Process Engineer to take technical ownership of its process engineering activities, working across detailed design, equipment selection, testing and commissioning.

This is an opportunity to play a key technical role in developing and bringing innovative fuel-processing technology into operation, rather than handing designs over once the engineering is complete.

What makes this opportunity interesting?

You'll work closely with a multidisciplinary engineering team, taking responsibility for turning process concepts into reliable, working systems.

Your work will include:

  • Leading detailed process design, including PFDs, P&IDs, heat and mass balances, equipment sizing and specifications.
  • Working directly with equipment manufacturers and suppliers to select components and resolve technical challenges.
  • Getting hands-on with system testing, commissioning, troubleshooting and performance improvements.
  • Using process simulations and engineering calculations to develop and validate practical solutions.
  • Providing technical leadership and mentoring to two experienced Process Engineers.

You'll have the autonomy to influence engineering decisions, challenge existing approaches and remain closely involved throughout the development lifecycle.

What experience will you need?

We're looking for someone with substantial industrial process-engineering experience, ideally within gas processing, industrial gases, chemical processing or packaged process equipment.

Strong detailed design capability is essential, alongside practical experience commissioning, starting up and troubleshooting process systems.

You'll also need experience with equipment selection, process simulation, supplier engagement and process safety, including HAZOP.

Previous experience providing technical leadership to other engineers would be valuable.

You don't need previous hydrogen or ammonia experience. We're equally interested in engineers from established process industries who can bring relevant technical knowledge and practical problem-solving skills.

Benefits:

  • 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays
  • AVIVA private medical insurance
  • 5% employer pension contribution
  • Flexible working hours (37.5hrs P/W)
  • Planned company-wide performance bonus scheme
  • Potential share options, subject to board approval
  • Training and professional development opportunities
