H&P Executive Search has been instructed to recruit an Energy Associate for a well-known law firm for their Hamburg office. This position could also be based in Frankfurt or Berlin.


This opportunity sits within the firm’s Energy & Infrastructure practice, which is currently expanding, and offers the chance to advise on complex regulatory matters and major projects across the German energy sector.


The Role

You will advise domestic and international energy companies, infrastructure investors, project developers, utilities, network operators and financial institutions on a broad range of energy regulatory and public law matters, including:


  • German and European energy regulation
  • Renewable energy and infrastructure projects, including wind, solar, battery storage, hydrogen and grid infrastructure
  • Grid connection, network access and network charging matters
  • Regulatory requirements relating to energy generation, supply, trading and distribution
  • Project development, permitting and planning procedures
  • Regulatory aspects of energy M&A transactions, investments and project financings
  • Legal due diligence and regulatory risk assessments
  • Power purchase agreements, grid connection agreements and other energy-related contracts
  • Advising clients in administrative and regulatory proceedings
  • Representing clients before regulatory authorities and administrative courts
  • Monitoring legislative developments and assessing their commercial impact
  • Working directly with clients and collaborating with corporate, finance, real estate and public law teams on multidisciplinary projects


This is an excellent opportunity for an associate who wants to develop a strong specialism in energy regulatory law while working on strategically important energy and infrastructure projects.


Candidate Profile

We are looking to speak with lawyers who have:

  • 1–5 years’ PQE in energy, regulatory, public or administrative law at a leading international or well-regarded German law firm
  • Experience advising clients in the energy or infrastructure sectors
  • Strong knowledge of German and European energy regulation
  • An interest in renewable energy, infrastructure and the energy transition
  • Strong academic credentials
  • Commercial awareness and a practical approach to client work
  • Excellent drafting, communication and negotiation skills
  • Fluent German and a high level of English
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
