Position Overview

The Senior Asset Manager serves as the operational backbone for Guzman Energy’s portfolio of generation assets and load-serving obligations. Working within the Operations Department, this role bridges physical asset performance with commercial objectives, ensuring that generation resources are operated reliably and economically while fulfilling commitments to wholesale load customers across unregulated and regulated markets.

The successful candidate brings a blend of technical aptitude, market awareness, and cross-functional collaboration skills. They are comfortable working in a fast-paced, data-driven environment where decisions carry real-time financial consequences and regulatory complexity is the norm.

Key Responsibilities

Generation Asset Management

  • Serve as primary point of contact for owners and operators of contracted generation resources, including solar, wind, battery storage, natural gas, and hydro assets across multiple market footprints
  • Monitor asset availability, performance, and output against contractual requirements; track forced and planned outages and coordinate with counterparties on scheduling and mitigation
  • Maintain asset databases including capacity ratings, interconnection details, operational constraints, and contract terms; ensure accuracy for use in scheduling and commercial operations
  • Coordinate with the trading and origination teams to align asset availability with commercial positions and hedging strategies
  • Manage performance reporting for generation portfolio including availability factors, capacity factor analysis, curtailment tracking, and deviation reporting

Load Customer Operations

  • Support operational obligations to wholesale load customers, including municipalities, cooperatives, and commercial/industrial accounts served under full-requirements or partial-requirements structures
  • Monitor load shape, forecast accuracy, and actual consumption versus contracted volume; flag deviations and coordinate with scheduling for real-time adjustments
  • Interface with customer-side personnel on metering issues, billing disputes, load data requests, and operational notices
  • Assist in load forecasting processes by gathering and validating customer data inputs, weather-normalized baselines, and load growth assumptions

Scheduling & Market Operations Support

  • Coordinate with the scheduling and dispatch team to ensure generation assets are properly offered into the applicable ISO/RTO markets (e.g., ERCOT, SPP, MISO, CAISO, WECC bilateral markets)
  • Submit and manage resource plans, outage notifications, and ancillary service designations in compliance with applicable tariffs and scheduling deadlines
  • Support real-time operations by monitoring dispatch instructions, generating alerts for deviations, and coordinating with asset operators on compliance issues
  • Assist in settlement processes by validating meter data, reconciling generation and load schedules, and reviewing settlement statements from ISO/RTO operators

Contract Management

  • Serve as a key account manager for assigned loads and generators. Resolve customer problems, answer questions, and provide requested data and advice. Liaise with the Commercial team on contractual matters
  • Lead the onboarding of new generators and load customers
  • Review the operational performance of contracted generation assets to include monthly billing data review, forecast accuracy, and contract performance guarantees
  • Review the operational performance of contracted load assets

Operations Team Coordination

  • Coordinate with Market Operators (e.g. SPP), Transmission Service Providers (e.g. TSGT), Balancing Authorities (e.g. PSCO), regulatory bodies (e.g. FERC), and counterparties on operational matters
  • Support the operation of customer behind-the-meter (BTM) assets. Examples include data validation, forecast review, market registration, and other contractually obligated responsibilities of Guzman Energy

Compliance & Reporting

  • Submit required resource adequacy (RA) data on behalf of load customers to RA market operators. Coordinate with load customers on these submissions
  • Assist the Guzman Energy compliance team in registering generators in Renewable Energy Credit (REC) reporting tools like WREGIS
  • Assist other Guzman Energy teams with compliance and market registration paperwork

Data, Analytics, Research & Market Intelligence

  • Maintain asset and load databases (meter data, forecast, BTM generation, etc.) and key contractual parameters for use by internal teams
  • Identify and resolve data gaps or discrepancies across internal and external systems like WREGIS, SharePoint, and Confluence
  • Build and maintain tracking tools that give visibility into asset and load status and performance
  • Track resource adequacy positions across the Guzman Energy portfolio and identify gaps for the commercial and mid-marketing team to fill
  • Track and summarize changes to market policy and operations and provide updates to internal teams
  • Conduct market research as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, Energy Management, or a related field
  • 2–6 years of experience in energy operations, asset management, power scheduling, or a closely related function within the wholesale electricity sector
  • Working knowledge of at least one major ISO/RTO market structure (ERCOT, SPP, MISO, CAISO, WECC bilateral markets or similar) including scheduling protocols, market products, and settlement processes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with energy management systems (EMS), SCADA interfaces, or scheduling platforms
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities in a dynamic operational environment
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact professionally with asset operators, counterparties, and internal stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Economics, Finance, Energy Management or a related field
  • Experience managing a diverse portfolio of generation technologies including renewables and storage in addition to conventional thermal resources
  • Familiarity with PPA structures, bilateral power contracts, and load-serving obligations in an unregulated wholesale context
  • Experience with settlements reconciliation, meter data validation, and dispute resolution with ISOs or counterparties
  • Exposure to NERC compliance programs or utility operations in a non-wires context
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau) or scripting languages (Python, SQL) used for operational analytics
  • NERC System Operator certification or progress toward certification is a plus
