Position Overview

Guzman Energy is seeking a quantitatively strong Energy Analyst Intern to lead two high-impact projects over 8-12 weeks, working closely with our trading and analytics teams. This role sits at the intersection of energy markets, data analytics, and financial modeling — offering hands-on experience with industry-leading tools used by power market professionals. The ideal candidate is analytically rigorous, detail-oriented, and eager to contribute to real workflows in a fast-moving energy company.

Internship Duration: 8–12 weeks during Summer 2026 (May–August, depending on academic calendar)

Key Responsibilities

Over the course of 8-12 weeks, the Energy Analyst Intern will own two defined project tracks, each with a clear scope and deliverable.

Project 1: Cquant Power Curve Forecasting Setup

Lead the implementation and configuration of Cquant, a power curve forecasting tool, to support Guzman Energy's trading and origination functions. The intern will work with the trading team to understand data inputs, configure the tool, validate outputs against market benchmarks, and document the setup process for ongoing team use.

  • Coordinate with the trading team to gather required data inputs and understand forecasting objectives
  • Configure and test the Cquant tool for Guzman Energy's markets and use cases
  • Validate power curve outputs against historical prices and market benchmarks
  • Produce documentation summarizing the setup process, key findings, and recommendations for ongoing use

Project 2: Ascend Analytics Portfolio Valuation Setup

Onboard Guzman Energy's portfolio into the Ascend Analytics portal to enable systematic portfolio value tracking. The intern will map existing portfolio data to Ascend's data requirements, execute the integration, and validate that portfolio valuations are accurately reflected in the platform. The project will conclude with a brief presentation of the completed setup and key insights to the analytics team.

  • Map Guzman Energy's portfolio data to Ascend Analytics input requirements
  • Execute portfolio onboarding and validate valuation outputs for accuracy
  • Identify and resolve data discrepancies in coordination with internal stakeholders
  • Present completed setup and portfolio valuation summary to the analytics team

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field
  • Proficiency in Python, including experience with data manipulation libraries (e.g., pandas, NumPy)
  • Working knowledge of SQL and relational database concepts
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas and data analysis functions
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently on defined projects
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present analytical findings clearly

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of at least two years of undergraduate coursework; rising juniors and seniors strongly encouraged to apply
  • Familiarity with power markets, energy trading concepts, or commodity pricing
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Plotly, or similar)
  • Exposure to statistical or financial modeling techniques such as regression, time series analysis, or curve fitting
  • Previous internship or research experience in finance, energy, or a quantitative field

Location & Work Environment

This position is based in our downtown Denver office and requires in-person attendance Monday through Thursday. Interns will work up to 29 hours per week, with schedules determined in coordination with their direct manager. Our collaborative culture values innovation, integrity, & impact.
