Description

The Sr. Machinist is a technical expert responsible for performing complex machining operations, leading machine setups, and providing guidance to junior machinists. This role supports continuous improvement in precision, productivity, and tooling efficiency while ensuring work is completed safely, accurately, and in alignment with quality standards.

Work Location

The position will be based in the Chicagoland area at GTI Energy Headquarters and requires on-site presence Monday through Friday. Additional on-site attendance may be required to support operational or safety needs.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead complex setups and operations for CNC and manual machining equipment
  • Troubleshoot machining issues, identify root causes, and optimize processes for quality and efficiency
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on manufacturability, prototyping, and process development
  • Train and mentor technicians and engineers on machining best practices
  • Recommend and implement improvements to tooling, fixtures, and machining processes
  • Ensure safe machine shop operations and proper upkeep of equipment
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

  • Knowledge of CNC and manual machining processes, including complex machine setups, tooling, and fixturing
  • Skill in troubleshooting machining issues, performing root cause analysis, and optimizing machining processes for quality and efficiency
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams on manufacturability reviews and prototype development
  • Ability to train and mentor technicians and engineers on machining techniques, safety, and best practices
  • Skill in evaluating and recommending improvements to tooling, fixtures, and machining processes
  • Knowledge of machine shop safety standards and ability to maintain safe operations and equipment condition

Education and Experience

  • 8+ years of relevant professional experience with an Associate's degree, or
  • 10+ years of relevant professional experience with a high school diploma
  • Expert knowledge of machining principles, materials, and cutting strategies
  • Strong mentor/leadership capability
  • Capable of producing tight-tolerance components for R&D applications

Pay Transparency

The salary range for this position is $31.25 - $39.00 USD Hourly. This hourly range is GTI Energy's good faith estimate, and the actual hourly rate may vary based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, GTI Energy's business or organizational needs and an individual's relevant experience, education, qualifications, certifications, skills, seniority, geographic location, and/or performance. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus. The range listed is just one component of GTI Energy's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, paid time off, and region-specific benefits.
