Head of Project Development – Renewable Energy
Our client is a subsidiary of a multinational construction group, a global leader in sustainable infrastructure development, specializing in renewable energy projects (photovoltaic plants, wind farms, battery storage, transmission lines etc). Operating in markets including the United States, Australia, Brazil, and South Africa, and Europe, they drive high-impact projects that contribute to the global transition towards clean energy. The company focuses on both greenfield developments and strategic mergers and acquisitions, collaborating with landowners, suppliers, and local stakeholders to deliver sustainable solutions.
Mission: As the Head of Project Development, you will be leading the strategic planning, origination, and execution of renewable energy projects (solar, battery storage, wind etc.) from concept through Ready-to-Build (RTB) phase. Oversee site selection, permitting, interconnection. Engage with stakeholders and on daily basis coordinate with engineering, finance, and construction teams.
Responsibilities:
• Project Origination & Strategy
o Identify and evaluate new project opportunities across the U.S.
o Develop and maintain a pipeline of viable renewable energy projects
o Lead market analysis and site feasibility studies
• Permitting & Regulatory Compliance
o Oversee permitting processes at local, state, and federal levels
o Ensure compliance with environmental, land use, and energy regulations
• Interconnection & Grid Coordination
o Manage interconnection applications and utility coordination
o Collaborate with transmission and grid operators (e.g., ISO/RTOs)
• Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
o Lead and mentor a team of project developers and analysts
o Coordinate with engineering, legal, finance, and construction teams
• Budgeting & Commercial Oversight
o Develop project budgets and timelines
o Support financial modeling and investment approvals
• Stakeholder Engagement
o Build relationships with landowners, community leaders, and regulators
o Represent the company in public hearings and community forums
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Business, or related field (Master’s preferred)
• Around 6+ years of experience in renewable energy project development
• Strong knowledge of U.S. energy markets, permitting, and interconnection processes
• Experience with land acquisition, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory navigation
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills
