GEL is setting up a greenfield Integrated Steel Plant at Bhadrawati (Chandrapur) in the state of Maharashtra, having capacity of 0.4 MTPA finished steel, along with 1.2 MTPA Iron Ore Pellet Plant, 65000 NM3/Hr of Syn Gas based on Coal Gasification Technology, and other auxiliary units along with these capacities.


Job Description: GM/DGM – ESG & Sustainability

 

Job Title: GM/DGM – ESG & Sustainability.

Reports To: President (Business Development & Corporate Relations).

Location: Nagpur

Job Type: Full-time

 

Qualifications & Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor’s + Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, Energy, ESG, Climate Change, MBA or related field.

Experience:

  • 12-15 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in ESG reporting, sustainability programs, or environmental management.
  • Industry experience in manufacturing, steel, power, energy, mining, or infrastructure is an advantage.

 Position Overview


The ESG & Sustainability resource will be responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring the organization’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategy, monitoring sustainability performance, drives decarbonisation initiatives, ensuring regulatory and reporting compliance, and driving continuous improvement in sustainability practices in line with global frameworks and stakeholder expectations.


Key Responsibilities

A) ESG & Sustainability Framework:

  • Develop and implement ESG strategy& roadmap, sustainability frameworks, aligned with business objectives.
  • Policies formulation around the complete coverage of ESG & Sustainability aspects.
  • Monitor ESG and sustainability initiatives across operations.

B) Environmental & Climate:

  • Calculate and manage GHG emissions (Scope 1, 2, and relevant Scope 3).
  • Support energy efficiency, resource optimization, waste reduction, and water management initiatives.
  • Track environmental performance indicators and support improvement plans.
  • Initiate and support climate risk assessments and decarbonization strategies, resource efficiency measures.
  • Prepare and ensuring adherence/compliance assurance to environmental management plan for various aspects such as waste management, water conservation, pollution, etc.

C) ESG Reporting & Compliance:

  • Prepare ESG and sustainability reports aligned with frameworks such as:
  • GHG Protocol / ISO 14064
  • GRI Standards
  • BRSR / CSRD / TCFD / CDP/ ESRS / CBAM/ SBTi, etc (as applicable)
  • Ensure compliance with applicable environmental and ESG regulations, state/central govt compliances with respect to EC, EIA, etc.
  • Coordinate data collection, validation, and documentation for audits and disclosures.
  • Support third-party ESG ratings and assessments.

D) Social, CSR & Governance:

  • Design, plan and support initiatives related to health & safety, employee well-being, diversity, and community engagement.
  • Assist in monitoring compliance with governance policies, codes of conduct, and ethical standards.
  • Support supplier sustainability and responsible sourcing programs.
  • Develop community engagement and CSR initiatives, Implementation of the same along with SID (Social and infrastructure development).

E) Stakeholder Engagement & Continuous Improvement:

  • Work with internal teams (operations, EHS, procurement, finance, HR) to integrate ESG into business processes.
  • Support training and awareness programs on sustainability and ESG topics.
  • Track industry best practices and emerging ESG regulations.
  • Organisation wide capacity building for various initiatives across the functions related to ESG & Sustainability aspects.


Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of ESG frameworks and sustainability standards.
  • Experience with GHG accounting and emission factor calculations.
  • Data analysis and reporting skills (Excel, ESG software tools preferred).
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Good communication and stakeholder coordination skills.
  • Analytical, detail-oriented, and structured approach.


Desirable Certifications

  • GRI Certified Sustainability Professional.
  • ISO 14001 / ISO 14064 Lead Implementer or Auditor.
  • CDP / TCFD / BRSR training or certification.
  • Other relevant certifications.
