Greenpeace is an international non-profit global campaigning organisation. Our independence and global reach enable us to stand for positive change through action in order to defend nature and promote peace. We investigate and expose global environmental problems, confront those in positions of power and present alternative solutions.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced press officer to work on some of the world's biggest environmental campaigns at a critical juncture for the future of the living world.

As our fossil fuel dependence turbocharges a major cost of living crisis and climate impacts grow more devastating all around us, the stakes are getting higher but so is the pressure on governments and corporations to take action.

As a leading environmental organisation, Greenpeace is at the forefront of the most urgent challenges we face, from the climate emergency and plastic pollution to deforestation and ocean protection.

As a member of our news team, you will sit at the very heart of our campaigning operation. You will focus on gaining influential coverage for our campaigns and identifying opportunities for strategic interventions that help us win. You will help shape our communications strategies and craft the compelling messages we need to win the public argument on behalf of our planet.

This is a fast-paced and varied job that requires strong initiative, creative thinking, and great organisational skills. You may be planning a big direct action to stop a ship carrying polluting diesel cars to the UK one day, and pitching a high-profile investigation to a national newspaper the next.

We are looking for a savvy media operator who enjoys the cut and thrust of the daily news cycle, has a good grasp of all UK media, and has some understanding of who holds the power and pulls the strings when it comes to UK and global policy. We also need a proactive press officer who doesn’t just wait to be fed a news story but goes out there looking for one.

You will also be working with our award-winning investigative unit, Unearthed, to increase the public profile of our investigations, so experience in this field will be highly valued.

For this role we are looking for someone with solid experience of generating high-quality media coverage for campaigns across a wide range of media outlets, from local media to newspaper features, TV news, and consumer magazines. Experience of working on international campaigns and coordinating press initiatives with organisations based in multiple countries will also be a bonus.
