About Greenpeace South Asia

Greenpeace South Asia is a newly established regional office in its early stages of development, working across a diverse and dynamic portfolio of countries. Our environmental campaigns focus on just transition, climate change adaptation, and building momentum towards more inclusive environmental protection and sustainable development initiatives. Based in Colombo, Greenpeace South Asia is a growing, impact-driven campaigning organization committed to driving meaningful and lasting change across the region.

About the position:

The purpose of this role is to support a study on air pollution as a major public health and urban challenge, focusing on how influential social groups shape awareness and action.

As part of the Green Social Contract (GSC), the role will contribute to framing clean air as a shared public good, moving beyond technical solutions to emphasize equity, public health, and liveable cities. It will also explore the links between air quality and sustainable urban mobility, while supporting efforts to build coalitions for more inclusive and effective urban outcomes.

In this role you will:

  • Conduct a structured review and synthesis of existing evidence on 4-6 cities with measurable air quality improvements
  • Identify and analyse key drivers of air pollution reduction in selected contexts
  • Map influential actors and assess their roles in shaping outcomes
  • Examine the nature of their contributions (e.g., advocacy, investment, role modelling, or policy influence)
  • Assess whether and how these actors influenced public perception or policy direction
  • Extract transferable lessons relevant to other cities, particularly in the Global South
  • Produce a synthesis report (maximum 20 pages) summarising findings and insights
  • Compile an annotated annex of all supporting public sources used in the study
  • Develop a campaign insights note highlighting opportunities to engage and mobilise influential groups for clean air and sustainable urban mobility
  • Deliver a 90-minute internal presentation and discussion session to share findings and recommendations

Whom we’re looking for:

  • Educational background in urban studies, public policy, environmental studies, sociology, development studies, transport planning, political science, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience in policy research, urban sustainability, air pollution, transport, mobility, climate, or related areas, particularly within Global South contexts.
  • Strong analytical, desk research, and report-writing skills, including the ability to synthesise qualitative and quantitative information into concise, high-quality outputs.
  • Familiarity with urban liveability, public transport, environmental governance, coalition-building, or Green Social Contract-related frameworks.
  • Experience conducting stakeholder engagement or key informant interviews, with excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

What we can offer you:

  • A friendly, motivated, and high-performing team in a growing regional office
  • Opportunity to help shape a newly established office and its future direction
  • Flexible working hours to support better work-life balance
  • Strong focus on personal and professional development with global learning opportunities
  • Competitive NGO-level salary and benefits package (details shared at offer stage)
