Be bold. Be creative. Be part of the fight for a green and peaceful future.

At Greenpeace Australia Pacific (GPAP), we believe a better world is possible and we’re determined to make it real. We are an independent campaigning organisation, powered by people and creative action, taking on the biggest environmental and climate challenges of our time. Our priorities are:

  • tackling climate change by stopping emissions from fossil fuel extraction at source; and
  • protecting nature, including our oceans and forests, by stopping the largest sources of environmental destruction like industrial fishing and deforestation.

Whatever your role at GPAP, you’ll be part of something bigger: a passionate global movement that sparks action, holds decision‑makers to account, and drives lasting change for people and the planet. This is an opportunity to use your skills, creativity, and commitment to help shape a future worth fighting for.

SENIOR EXECUTIVE ADVISOR TO THE CEO

Role: Full time, 2 year Fixed Term Contract

Location: Open to Sydney based candidates, working hybrid out of our Head Office in Rosebery.

THE ROLE

Are you a sharp, analytical thinker who can cut through complexity and translate high-stakes information into strategic impact?

As the Senior Executive Advisor to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), you will serve as an analytical anchor within the high-performing Office of the CEO (OCEO). Reporting directly to the General Counsel, you will work in lockstep with executive leadership to ensure the CEO is optimally positioned to lead for impact. This is not an administrative role; it is a tactical, analytical, and relational position designed to enable the CEO to execute non-delegable strategic responsibilities.

You will act as a critical sounding board for complex questions, and a key conduit between the CEO, the broader Leadership Team, and senior management.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Executive briefings and strategy: Conduct rapid, high-quality research across policy, political, media, and campaign contexts, and synthesize results to create sophisticated, robust, decision-ready briefings.
  • High-impact communication: Draft and refine presentations, talking points, correspondence, and social media content (like LinkedIn), perfectly capturing and amplifying the CEO’s voice.
  • Relationship and engagement management: Understand and navigate the CEO’s external relationship landscape, attending key meetings, identifying public engagement opportunities, and ensuring consistent and effective follow-up.
  • Strategic conduit and alignment: Act as a connection point across leadership teams, ensuring seamless integration of the CEO’s priorities and providing first-pass editing support to ensure organisational alignment.

THE TEAM

This role sits within the OCEO, which works across every part of the organisation to realise Greenpeace’s bold vision for a green and peaceful future.

At the centre is the CEO, who provides leadership, vision and strategic direction to GPAP in accordance with our core values and purpose, in cooperation with Greenpeace International and the Greenpeace Network. The Chief Operating Officer (COO) supports operational delivery and cross-departmental coordination, while the other members of the executive Leadership Team (LT) lead the delivery of campaigns, communications, engagement, fundraising and technology.

Whilst this role directly supports our CEO, you will report into our General Counsel and Company Secretary who enables strategic impact across the organisation, ensures strong governance, compliance, and organisational integrity, supports the LT and oversees Board operations and subcommittees.

Together, this team is focussed and deeply committed to collaboration, impact and working with a shared sense of purpose while fostering a workplace built on respect, innovation and trust.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are looking for someone with an intuitive understanding of power, how it functions across Australian political, cultural, and business landscapes and a genuine passion for Greenpeace’s mission. You possess exceptional judgment and know exactly when to dive deep into a problem, when to escalate it, and when a document is polished and ready for executive sign-off.

The key skills and experience we are looking for includes:

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with the ability to turn complex inputs into high-impact, audience-appropriate material under pressure;
  • Ability to source and synthesize relevant and accurate information, and present and stand behind fit-for-purpose outputs;
  • A trusted, mature advisor who handles highly sensitive information with flawless discretion and professionalism;
  • A deep commitment to Greenpeace’s mission, theory of change, and values;
  • At least four (4) years of experience in a high-performance analytical environment (e.g., judge’s associate, legal, policy, government, consulting, or a similar corporate/NGO environment); and
  • Prior experience supporting a senior executive or public figure background in speechwriting, advocacy, or campaigning; or formal legal training/exposure to structured reasoning is highly desirable.

We recognise that sometimes the right person for a job is based on personal qualities and not just qualifications. If you are not sure whether you are qualified, we would strongly encourage you to make an inquiry or go ahead and apply.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • Be part of a globally respected brand: Work with one of the most influential names in the environmental NGO space, backed by five decades of courageous campaigning.
  • Work-life balance you can rely on: A 35-hour work week, supported by GPAP’s integrity framework, plus generous leave options (including an additional week of paid leave between Christmas and New Year).
  • Workplace designed for impact: Enjoy our purpose-built head office in Rosebery, Sydney, a space created to foster collaboration and creativity.
  • A culture of belonging: Join a team that truly celebrates inclusivity, diversity, and a sense of community.
  • Support for your wellbeing: Access an annual health and wellness allowance and Breather Days to help you thrive both inside and outside of work.

Annual full-time salary: $120,525.69 per annum plus 12% superannuation.
