Be bold. Be creative. Be part of the fight for a green and peaceful future.

At Greenpeace Australia Pacific (GPAP), we believe a better world is possible and we’re determined to make it real. We are an independent campaigning organisation, powered by people and creative action, taking on the biggest environmental and climate challenges of our time. Our priorities are:

  • tackling climate change by stopping emissions from fossil fuel extraction at source; and
  • protecting nature, including our oceans and forests, by stopping the largest sources of environmental destruction like industrial fishing and deforestation.

Whatever your role at GPAP, you’ll be part of something bigger: a passionate global movement that sparks action, holds decision‑makers to account, and drives lasting change for people and the planet. This is an opportunity to use your skills, creativity, and commitment to help shape a future worth fighting for.

SENIOR COMMUNICATIONS ADVISOR

Role: Full-time, 12 month Fixed Term Contract

Location: Ideally based in Perth, Australia - Hybrid working in the Perth office; open to considering strong candidates elsewhere in Australia

THE TEAM

The primary goal of GPAP is to bring down the might of the fossil fuel order standing in the way of a sustainable future; this team's job is to produce engaging communications that fulfil this goal. You’ll join a skilled, dedicated and friendly team of four communications and media professionals, working in a fast-paced dynamic environment.

We expose environmental crimes, hold companies and governments to account, promote climate solutions and inspire others to create positive change.

THE ROLE

The Senior Communications Advisor will play a pivotal role in the development and implementation of comprehensive and sophisticated traditional and new media strategies. This will drive our stories into Australian and international media to tell stories from the frontlines of the climate crisis and build the global movement for climate justice.

In this role, you will also work with movement allies, Pacific communities, and international Greenpeace colleagues on campaigns across our climate and nature programs of work. You’ll be proactively creating and responding to media and creative communication opportunities that advance our campaigns and organisational goals, while shaping public perception of climate action and justice.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

We’re looking for a highly driven and strategic communications professional - someone with outstanding writing and communication skills, and the ability to develop and implement sophisticated media strategies. You will also have proven experience and the skills to build deep and lasting relationships within the media, spokespeople, and with our allies.

You’ll also have:

  • Advanced level of knowledge and understanding of the Australian media landscape
  • Knowledge and understanding of the media advocacy needs of a campaigning organisation
  • At least five (5) years experience in a similar senior role in journalism, communications, or public relations
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of regional, state, national and international media
  • Deep understanding of messaging, narrative, and persuasive communications
  • Experience working in the climate, environment or advocacy space is preferred but not required

We recognise that sometimes the right person for a job is based on personal qualities and not just qualifications. If you are not sure whether you are qualified, we would strongly encourage you to make an inquiry or go ahead and apply.

  • Be part of a globally respected brand: Work with one of the most influential names in the environmental NGO space, backed by five decades of courageous campaigning.
