The Gratiot Conservation District is seeking an applicant for an Open Conservation Technician position in the Ithaca USDA Field Office located in Gratiot County, Michigan. This position administers the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) MAEAP and Regenerative Agriculture (Regen Ag) Programs in Gratiot County. MAEAP is an innovative, proactive program that helps farms of all sizes and all commodities voluntarily prevent and minimize agricultural pollution risks. Regen Ag is an active approach to land management, driven by the goal of improving soil health through sustainable farming methods that support profitability while restoring the land and safeguarding natural resources. This position will be responsible for delivering on-farm technical assistance, including risk assessments, coordinatiing local, state, and federal resources to help reduce on-farm risks, and assisting producers in making progress towards MAEAP verification and Regen Ag recognition.

An annually renewed statewide grant program funds the Conservation Technician position through MDARD. A bachelor's degree in natural resources or an agriculture-related science is preferred. Familiarity with Gratiot County agricultural practices, the ability to lift fifty pounds, and working knowledge of ARCGIS, and flexible work hours is required. A minimum of two years field experience is preferred. The candidate should have a strong aptitude for customer service, be proactive, and be willing to conduct site visits to frams and woodlots.
