Duties:
Environmental Approvals Branch: The Senior Engineer provides specialized engineering services with respect to the assessment of applications for licences for water power projects in accordance with The Water Power Act and Regulation. The assessment encompasses advice and technical guidance, planning input and analysis, inspections, and review of engineering plans and reports. This position is also responsible for the preparation of licences, permits, authorizations, documents and correspondence to ensure the sustainable use and allocation of Manitoba’s water power resources for the generation of hydro-electricity in accordance with the Act and Regulations and Manitoba’s water policies.
Environmental Programs and Remediation Branch: The Senior Engineer will provide specialized engineering services encompassing Manitoba’s environmental liabilities relating to Orphaned and Abandoned Mines and Contaminated Sites. The position includes developing strategies and seeking approvals from relevant authorities to address these environmental liabilities, and procurement of specialised engineering consulting and construction remediation services to investigate, assess, design, plan, and implement works and programs intended to minimise long term financial and environmental liabilities for the province
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Post-secondary education, Master’s degree preferred, in Engineering (e.g. Civil, Mechanical, Environmental, Geotechnical, Mining or Biosystems Engineering).
- Environmental Approval Senior Engineer - Experience with water resource systems, dam construction and open channel hydraulics.
- Environmental Programs and Remediation Senior Engineer - Experience with environmental remediation, rehabilitation, the management of former mine sites, mining waste water, contaminated sites, petroleum sites or other similar industrial areas.
- Experience reading and interpreting construction plans, specifications, technical proposals, and contract documents.
- Experience interpreting and writing various technical documents to support project planning and execution and communication to a variety of stakeholders.
- Strong verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate with a variety of audiences.
- Ability to undertake independent research, develop proposals to introduce new innovations, to work with appropriate software tools and technologies to successfully complete assignments/projects.
- Ability to foster effective relationships with Indigenous communities and engage in meaningful Crown consultation while applying the principles of reconciliation.
Desired:
- Knowledge of applicable Provincial Acts and Regulations.
- Experience in project management.
- Ability to prepare information for others regarding media inquiries and litigation related matters.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in French

Conditions of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must be registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM)
- Must be able to occasionally work outdoors in rough terrain, around water, ice, and traffic in all weather and climatic conditions
- Must be able to travel by ground and air transportation throughout the province including overnight stays including travel on remote roads
- Must possess and maintain a satisfactory criminal record check
- Must have a valid Manitoba Class 5 Drivers License
