Director of Power Stations
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Director of Power Stations to lead the strategy, development, and execution of customer-side energy infrastructure projects. This role is responsible for identifying, structuring, and delivering behind-the-meter energy solutions.
Unlike traditional renewable energy development roles, this position requires an individual who has successfully built and deployed C&I energy projects from concept through operation. The ideal candidate combines strong commercial acumen with technical project development expertise and has experience creating business models that optimize energy costs, improve reliability, generate new revenue streams, and support scalable deployment across multiple facilities.
This individual will play a key role in developing energy projects connected to our Manteno manufacturing facility, with the objective of creating a replicable model for future deployments across other locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute customer-side energy infrastructure strategies focused on maximizing economic and operational value.
- Design and evaluate business models incorporating:
- Energy cost reduction
- Peak demand management and demand charge reduction
- Battery energy storage monetization
- Backup power and resiliency benefits
- Energy optimization and operational efficiency improvements
- Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) offerings
- Create scalable deployment frameworks that can be replicated across multiple facilities and customer segments.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and market opportunities to enhance project economics and customer value propositions.
Project Development Leadership
- Lead projects from initial concept through commercial operation.
- Conduct site evaluations and feasibility assessments.
- Analyze customer load profiles, utility tariffs, interval data, and energy consumption patterns.
- Develop financial models, business cases, ROI analyses, and investment recommendations.
- Familiarity with structuring commercial arrangements including:
- Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)
- Energy-as-a-Service contracts
- Lease structures
- Direct ownership models
- Shared savings agreements
- Manage utility engagement and interconnection processes.
- Oversee EPC, engineering, and technology partners throughout project execution.
- Manage commissioning activities and transition projects into operational status.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders across operations, finance, engineering, procurement, and executive leadership.
- Serve as the primary project sponsor and commercial lead throughout development and execution.
- Align project objectives with broader business and operational goals.
- Build relationships with utilities, regulators, technology providers, consultants, and strategic partners.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Energy Systems, Business, Finance, or related field.
- 15+ years of experience in distributed energy, microgrids, energy storage, C&I solar, EV charging infrastructure, or related energy project development.
- Demonstrated experience leading behind-the-meter energy projects from development through operation.
- Strong understanding of utility tariffs, load analysis, energy markets, and distributed energy economics.
- Experience developing customer-side business cases and commercial structures.
- Proven ability to manage complex cross-functional projects involving multiple stakeholders.
- Strong financial modeling and project economics expertise.
- Experience negotiating commercial agreements and managing external partners.
- Proficiency in Mandarin is highly preferred but not required.
