Role Overview


We are looking for a technically strong and curious individual to support the development, maintenance, and optimisation of data-driven trading and analytics workflows within energy and power markets. The role combines data engineering, analytics, and early-stage strategy research, with exposure to live trading environments and infrastructure.


Key Responsibilities


Day-to-Day Activities


  • Build, maintain, and enhance internal dashboards for monitoring performance and market activity.
  • Conduct data analysis to generate insights, support decision-making, and inform trading strategies.
  • Perform industry and market research across energy and power markets.
  • Contribute to cross-market analysis and idea generation.


Data & Infrastructure


  • Develop and maintain data pipelines, ensuring reliability and accuracy of data flows.
  • Work with PostgreSQL databases and perform SQL-based data extraction and transformation.
  • Support system maintenance, reconciliations, and data integrity checks.
  • Assist with cloud-based infrastructure (primarily Azure) and deployment workflows.
  • Apply best practices in production code (e.g. reliability, modularity, separation of concerns).
  • Work with containerised environments (Docker).


Analytics & Modelling


  • Support forecasting and trading model development (R&D and production support).
  • Implement and test data-driven strategies using statistical and machine learning techniques.
  • Work with Python-based libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, Polars, scikit-learn, Keras, and matplotlib.
  • Explore and prototype new models and analytical approaches.


Nice to Have (Not Essential)


  • Experience with Grafana or similar dashboarding tools.
  • Familiarity with APIs, HTML, or front-end integrations.
  • Understanding of real-time data processing systems.
  • Experience with SQL and relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL).


Required Skills


Technical Skills (Hard Skills)

  • Strong Python proficiency.
  • Solid understanding of statistics and data analysis.
  • Confidence working with numerical datasets.


Soft Skills

  • Proactive and self-driven approach to problem solving.
  • Strong communication skills, particularly in a remote working environment.
  • Comfortable working independently and managing own workload.
  • Willingness and ability to quickly learn new technologies, concepts, and tools.
  • Self-starter mindset with a willingness to upskill (learning budget available).


Additional Considerations

  • Interest in energy and power markets is highly desirable.
  • The team operates flexibly and may occasionally work outside typical hours (no expectation, but awareness is useful).
