The Chief of Staff provides senior-level leadership, coordination, and strategic support for the Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP), a U.S. Department of Energy initiative that enables federal agencies to achieve energy efficiency and resilience goals. FEMP delivers technical expertise, tools, training, and project assistance to help agencies reduce energy and water use, cut costs, and strengthen mission readiness. The Chief of Staff serves as a trusted advisor to FEMP leadership, ensuring alignment of program priorities, efficient operations, and effective stakeholder engagement across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Alignment: Advise senior leadership on program priorities, resource allocation, and organizational strategy to ensure alignment with DOE and federal energy efficiency objectives.
  • Program Oversight: Support the coordination and execution of high-level initiatives, ensuring milestones and deliverables are met on time and within scope.
  • Leadership Support: Act as a right hand to the FEMP Director, helping to prepare briefings, coordinate executive communications, and manage cross-cutting initiatives.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with federal agency partners, industry stakeholders, and internal teams to advance FEMP’s mission.
  • Operational Efficiency: Oversee daily operations and ensure organizational processes, reporting mechanisms, and decision-making structures are optimized for effectiveness.
  • Policy & Communications: Prepare policy briefs, leadership correspondence, and high-level reports to support DOE decision-making and federal compliance requirements.
  • Team Management: Mentor staff and coordinate across functional teams to ensure seamless collaboration and effective execution of priorities.
  • Crisis & Risk Management: Provide strategic guidance during program challenges, identifying risks and developing mitigation strategies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Business Administration, Energy Management, or related field;
  • 10 - 12 years of progressive experience in federal program management, strategic planning, or organizational leadership, with preference for direct experience in prior Chief of Staff role.
  • Demonstrated success in managing cross-functional teams and high-priority federal initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of federal government operations, policies, and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication, briefing, and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated experience engaging senior executives and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to synthesize complex technical and policy information into concise recommendations for leadership.
  • Prior experience supporting DOE and FEMP, or other federal energy programs strongly preferred.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities under tight deadlines

Work Location: Washington DC and Remote (Hybrid)
