The Credit Review Underwriter will utilize their expertise to review and cure post closed loans as well as review loans where a denial is requested to ensure all files are properly documented and the decision is compliant with HMDA, ECOA and any applicable state statute and regulations. This role will need to be fluent in all loan types.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs and completes a credit review of Fannie, Freddie, FHA, VA and Jumbo loans to determine the accuracy and validity of the cancellation or denial request.
- Work with Post Closing team to resolve Agency or Investor findings to ensure loans are salable. This may involve calling borrowers, employers, agencies or other entities to obtain documentation as needed to cure loans.
- Follow up on outstanding review items and recommendations to determine the correct disposition of the file in a timely manner per HMDA, ECOA, agency and state requirements.
- Review post closed files to respond to 3rd party audits either by disputing the finding, responding with a cure, or confirming the error would lead to a self-report.
- Assist the Loan solution managers in documenting the cancellation/denial or assisting in solutions to reactivate the loan.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Minimum 3 years of underwriting experience with 3 to 5 years’ experience in the industry
- Strong knowledge of agency guidelines for conventional and FHA required. VA knowledge a plus.
- Strong knowledge in calculating income types including self-employed income
- Knowledge of federal, state, and regulatory rules, laws, regulations, and statutes relevant to the mortgage industry
- Strong work ethic
- Precise attention to detail
- Able to communicate effectively
- Experience with Encompass a plus
- Experience with Microsoft Office, particularly Word, and Excel
Compensation: $46/hour
