About the Global Impact Coalition

The Global Impact Coalition was founded by some of the world’s leading chemical companies, with the goal of being an incubation platform for pre-competitive projects to accelerate the chemical industry’s transition to a low-carbon and circular economy. Incubated at the World Economic Forum and now an independent organization, GIC brings together major petrochemical and adjacent companies to de-risk projects that no single company can advance alone. Our work is organised around three strategic pillars: Feedstock Replacement & Circularity, Process Emissions and Safety.

You would join a growing team where you contribute to GIC’s project portfolio whilst working directly with leadership teams of some of the largest chemical companies in the world.

About the role

The Project Specialist will manage and assist with a portfolio of GIC projects, from shaping new ideas through to execution and spin-out. A significant part of the role involves working directly with technical and commercial teams from member companies, bringing multiple stakeholders into the room, aligning priorities, and moving projects from concept to real outcomes. Between sessions, you will drive project development, engage key external partners, and ensure each initiative is positioned to deliver tangible value.

This role requires a strong understanding of the chemical industry, both technically and commercially, and the ability to operate confidently with senior stakeholders across multiple organizations.

Main responsibilities

  • Shape and develop new project ideas where members show real conviction, then lead them from concept through execution to spin-out
  • Convene and chair project working groups, setting agendas, driving decisions and holding partners to agreed deliverables and timelines
  • Manage member relationships within your portfolio, keeping technical and commercial sponsors engaged and surfacing where their priorities are shifting
  • Own the project plan and budget for each initiative, including scoping and managing external consultants or technical partners
  • Support a new GIC scope of work around a market-building mechanism and financial instrument design to address areas of green premium, researching precedents such as premium buy-down, advance market commitment and offtake aggregation, testing options against value-chain input
  • Resolve key bottlenecks across commercial structure, sequencing, and contracting within a pre-competitive, antitrust framework
  • Report progress and risks on your projects, with a clear recommendation on each, contributing to wider updates to the CEO and ExCom

Essential

  • 5+ years leading multi-stakeholder projects in chemicals, energy or adjacent heavy industry, with at least one taken from concept through to implementation.
  • Working knowledge of chemical industry economics, including how feedstock, regulation and capex cycles shape investment decisions
  • Able to build techno-economic models or business cases that inform real investment or go/no-go decisions
  • Strong project management discipline, with ability to keep multiple workstreams on track, maintain clear status and documentation and drive delivery to timelines
  • Has led working sessions with technical and commercial leadership at large industrial companies, with the standing to challenge and align
  • Turns complex technical, commercial and regulatory input into clear decision-ready materials for senior audiences
  • Experience delivering multi-company or consortium-based initiatives in chemicals, energy or adjacent heavy industry

Desirable

  • Clear and concise communication, both written and visual, with strong command of tools such as PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with AI-supported research and drafting workflows
  • Top tier management consulting background
  • Exposure to commercial structuring or contracting in a pre-competitive or antitrust-sensitive setting
  • Background in circularity, recycling technology, carbon capture or alternative feedstocks
  • Familiarity with EU industrial and circular economy policy, including ELV, PPWR or CBAM

If you meet most but not all of the above, we would still like to hear from you.
