Stem Cell Scientist - Mitacs Internship

At Genuine Taste, we’re on a mission to transform the food system by creating a novel cultivated fat ingredient that brings authentic taste and texture to alternative meat products. Our work bridges cutting-edge stem cell science, synthetic biology, and sustainable food innovation, helping accelerate the global shift away from industrial animal agriculture.
We are seeking a current MSc/PhD student or recent graduate to join our R&D team in Sydney, Nova Scotia. This is an opportunity to work directly with our founding team in a fast-paced startup environment, where your ideas and experiments will directly shape the future of sustainable food.
Responsibilities
● Design and perform experiments related to stem cell proliferation and differentiation, independently and in collaboration with team members.
● Collect, analyze, interpret, and present experimental data.
● Assist with grant applications and prepare technical reports/scientific papers.
● Support laboratory operations and contribute to maintaining an efficient workflow.
● Actively participate in scientific discussions and share critical feedback.
What we’re looking for:
● Currently enrolled in, or recently completed, an MSc or PhD in stem cell science, biophysics, biomedical engineering, synthetic biology, or a related field.
● Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture.
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
● A genuine passion for sustainability, climate action, and alternative proteins.
Bonus points for experience with:
● Adipose fat cell differentiation
● 3D cell culture models
● Industrial processes (e.g., bioreactor design)
