Job Description Summary

The P&C Power Systems Engineering Services Leader is responsible for managing & developing technical resources for executing protection, control, and automation projects for customers outsourcing their power system design and testing work. She/he defines, plans & implements delivery model for P&C Engineering Services and associated site services activities, in close collaboration with Project Management, Automation, Panel and Field Service Engineering teams. She/he manages engineering team and ensures the availability of skilled resources.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage engineering team, defining team strategy, set-up & Key Performance indicators
  • Keep high standards in engineering, efficiency, on time delivery
  • Tracks and manages resource utilization in conjunction with Project Management Office (PMO) to ensure efficiency and ability to meet demand
  • Develop Consulting Services offerings to contribute to GA service and solutions growth.
  • Delivery engineering projects on time, as per budget, with highest quality standards
  • Coach engineering team & develop individual & team skills
  • Analyzing customer applications and designing protection and control schemes to fulfil user specifications and requirements
  • Technically leading engineering studies and analyses (short circuit, device coordination, power flow, etc.), relay setting file preparation and /or conversion (programming of P&C elements, control logic, communication configuration, etc.), and complex control scheme development (Transfer schemes, fast load shedding, etc.).
  • Leading and managing testing of customized P&C solutions both in house and at customer installations
  • Enhance NAM service capabilities to drive innovation and to ensure speed, quality, and productivity.
  • Define engineering and delivery model strategy for Consulting Services and associated site services activities
  • Partner with Global GA Services Team to support/develop GA Services offerings for NAM
  • Engage with the GA NAM Commercial team to promote services offerings
  • Work in close conjunction with the tendering team to ensure timely support as needed on tender estimations and post-delivery project feedback
  • Ensure resources optimization & adequate support to Customer projects
  • Interface with customers (internal and external) for most important projects and technical issues resolution
  • Ensure full usage of defined PL engineering tools with the engineering team, be an active contributor on continuous improvement by sharing enhancement proposals and best practices
  • Lead EHS/Safety actions and performance: be fully compliant with GE rules and processes, ensure engineering teams (own and subcontracted) are properly trained and holders of required qualifications when required. Lead to EHS monitoring actions, perform HSV
  • Follow GE compliance Policies (‘The Spirit and The Letter’) and promote open reporting
  • Support Commercial team by return of experience, optimizing engineering costs & deliveries

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Power System) from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum of 10 years of Engineering and Business knowledge specifically in Protection and Control
  • Ability and willingness to travel 20%

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience in programming the GE Multilin family of relays, specifically the UR and MICOM Family
  • Experience in designing power system control schemes (Transfer Schemes, Auto-restoration Schemes)
  • Excellent understanding of all major protection principles including Distance, Differential, Transformer, Bus, Feeder, Generator and Motors.
  • Demonstrated team player. Capability to manage & motivate an engineering team
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Fully fluent in English

  • Experience in turn-key Protection and Control projects
  • Demonstrated record in developing protection and control applications
  • Working knowledge of major test sets and short-circuit/coordination software
  • Familiarity with standard work and documentation procedures of electrical utilities
  • Interdisciplinary experience including metering, communications, substation automation and integration
  • Ability to interface with and influence all levels of the customer’s organization as well as other internal functions.
  • Ability to present training courses and write technical papers
  • Previous work experience in multi-cultural environment
  • Strong business acumen, execution driven, process appliance, PM metrics, teamwork
