Job Description Summary

Under the responsibility of the Fleet Reliability & Operation (FRO) engineer manager, the Fleet Reliability & Operation Lead Engineer covers a part of the Hydro engineering workload and works on some specific topics that require quick reactions. The selected candidate will be part of team of 20 engineers that support site installation, service projects, warranty issues, and maintenance projects. The ultimate goal is to provide better service to Hydro Customers and site crew to ensure their satisfaction while also ensuring GE's growth in this specific market.

GE Renewable Energy Hydro engineering teams work on Hydro Turbine and Generator projects from the design phase through installation & commissioning. Fleet Reliability & Operation engineers work mainly on site support, commissioning support, service projects and warranty issues while design teams are focus on delivering drawings and procedures. The main rational for this division of work and main goal of the teams is to have a reactive engineering team available to support unplanned and FastTrack activities.

Essential Responsibilities:

The position is home-based, generally travelling up to 5 consecutive days per month or 2 months within Canada and the USA to assist site activities, meeting with customers and training/meetings at our headquarter office in Brossard (Canada). GE is looking for an established Hydro Generator Engineer in USA to be close to customers and to develop the services market in this area. Preferred location is on the west coast within an hour from an airport, but other location can be considered depending on candidate experience.

  • Conduct site visits to assess the existing generator condition, supervise signature tests on the unit before disassembly at site.
  • Daily phone call with site team to answer questions and anticipate any problems.
  • Provide additional work recommendation upon dismantling and inspection of existing components.
  • Review and approval of site record sheets.
  • Non-conformity and general issue resolution.
  • Conduct site visits during the critical phases of the project.
  • Support commissioning and test phases.
  • Follow up of the performance testing of the prototype generator on site.
  • Issue resolution during warranty period.
  • Technical customer support and issue resolution when the warranty is over.
  • Provide Feedback of experience to the design team.
  • Condition assessment (site inspection and major maintenance works recommendations to the customer).
  • Cavitation inspection.
  • Main site contact for operation and maintenance contracts.
  • Robotic submarine inspections.
  • Leading service projects including: spare parts, refurbishment of single components, design modification of specific components, refurbishment projects with limited scope.
  • Perform design, drawings and specifications for limited retrofit projects.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in hydro business.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willingness and ability to travel in North America and around the world.
  • Ability to work remotely in a team and to communicate effectively.
  • Must be willing to comply with pre-employment screening, including but not limited, reference verification and background check;
  • Must have USA work authorization.
  • PE licensed engineer (or in the process of obtaining license).

The salary range for this position is $96,500 - $126,500 USD/year. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location. Desired Characteristics:

  • Creativity, reactivity, sense of urgency, a good mix of common sense and science, priority management, proactivity, autonomy, good communication skills, are the main characteristics require for this position.
  • Knowledge on Hydro Turbine and Generator design and erecting methods.
  • Knowledge of calculation methods related to the strength of materials, finite element simulation, metallurgy and welding processes are added values for the job
